Namaste!

My 2c-

Do you know the story of Kannapa Nayanar- one of

revered Saivite saints? Apparently according to the

periapuranam, Kannapa did abhiseka on a Sivalinga with

the uncooked flesh of dead animals- something that is

scripturally proscribed; this used to piss off the

priest who did a proper abhisekam. One day when the

eye of the Sivalinga was bleeding, Kannapa cut out his

own eye and placed it before the linga as an offering;

pleased with his devotion Lord Siva gave him salvation

; now what was different in the approaches between the

orthodox priest and the savage hunter- it the BHAVA.

The hunter had true bhakti even though his "pooja" was

forbidden scripturally.

I can think of many other stories..

My case in point is that there is no right and wrong

when going to your own MOTHER with expectation of

getting nothing in return. Now if you are doing a

pooja with some object in mind, then it is important

to observe the restrictions and so on.

Ha ha ha!! Was expecting this from a couple of ppl. Most

commomly quoted by ones who want to feel convenient due to lack of

proper spiritual discipline on thier part, or due to inability to

follow injunctions.

Sick and tired of hearing this again and again.

Rules are for ppl like us. You and Me. Not for ppl like Ramana

maharsi or Kannappa or karaikkal Ammaiyar etc.. I myself know a big

bunch of'em if u wanna hear. See basava Purana if you like these

stories more--u will see Shiva bhaktas eating beef and what not..

Anybody can go against the rules(not knowingly goin against..not

following'em due to ignorance) as long as they can take out the eye

like kannappa. If you are unable to do like that then follow the

rules.

Bottom line is, since kannappa did abhisheka with meat etc.. go

ahead and do it(i.e stray from the rules). Since he also plucked out

his eye go ahaed and do that too(Becoz u r following Kannappa

right?). If u are able to do that(pluck out your eye and offer to

that Parameshvara, SadaShiva, Nilakantha that Mrityunjaya), I bow

down to your Bhakti. You are exempt from these rules.

If u r unable to do that then follow rules.

Please lemme know if anybody is offering their eye. Just call me.

Would love to witness such a great event and be blessed.
