Guest guest
>well. sister usha... thiese days, it has become >fashionable to blame >everything on 'terrorists' specially 'al-qaeda' but >until a full >scale investigation is conducted fairly and justly, >it is hard to say >who is responsible for this latest bombing in bali, >indonesia... I was simply quoting news reports here in the USA, and what I have read in magazines devoted to international politics. They say that the bombing in Bali was the work of an Indonesian group which associates with Al-Quaida. Radical moslems in Indonesia do not live on the island of Bali, but mostly on Sumatra and Sulawesi, plus some on Java. Part of Sumatra has been trying for several years to break away from Indonesia and establish an Islamic state there. Radical moslems on Sulawesi have been massacring many thousand of Christians on that island in recent years. Neither of these islands benefits much from tourist money in Bali. These radical people hate the Megawati government and want to replace it with an Islamic state. They hate Western influence, the massive influx of tourists in Bali being the most visible and obvious example of this. I do not know the social role of belly-dancing in the Middle East today. I suspect that it does not occur in Iran or other countries with Islamic governments, only in states with secular governments. Perhaps someone else on this list is more knowledgable about this than I. Also, the sinking of the ship Maine was in 1898, not whatever date you gave. Guest guest
- thanx ushaji for this perspective.... yes, another attack on a catholic church in phillip[ines, a staunch supporter of us.... but, i only wish and pray all these senseless attacks would stop and we can all breathe freely... thanx for correcting me regarding the maine shipwreck dates... your information on dates is correct... i apologize for the error... i guess i just want to believe all is well with the world and we can all live in peace and harmony once more ... travel freely ... etc... it would be a good idea for usa also to take a 'hard' look at its foreign policy and reexamine its involvement in the internal affairs in other countries. of course, the menace of islamic terrorism has also got to be tackled at all fronts? what do you think? wishful thinking, eh? love
