Guest guest Posted October 28, 2002 Report Share Posted October 28, 2002 Another story about the Cavery River, In the Sitala Purana, it is said that after Devi killed the Mahishasura, she had her holy dip the River Cavery, thereafter make her way to a little town in Ammankudi, Tamil Nadu. In Ammankudi, Devi washed her trident which she used to kill the Mahishasura in a pond (pushkarani ) in Ammankudi., this pond is later called "papa vimochana theertham" . She then went on a penance for 12 years to atone for the killing of Mahishasura. The pond never goes dry, even during the worst summer.
