it seems there is here a confusion between the validity of the visa and the

length of stay allowed in the country.

If the visa is valid six months it means you have six months to enter the

country.

Then there is the lenght of stay allowed, for example you can get a three

months tourist visa, which can be extended a further three months without

too much trouble at any Indian immigration office.

Other kind of visa are students visa (granted for a full year stay) but you

must show proof of actual enrollment in an Indian university.

Hope this does clarify things regarding visa validity and length of stay

granted.
