Namaskar to All:

I'd just like to take a moment to welcome our new members; I hope you

all enjoy the Group, visit often, and post as frequently as the

spirit moves you. We're a friendly bunch, our bark is worse than our

bite -- so feel free to dive in; believe me, the water's fine.

I hope some of you will be bold enough to offer an introduction. If

you're a little shy, why not simply fill your Profile page,

and let us know you've joined.

For now, I'd like to mention that we were just joined yesterday by a

Shakta of the highest water -- Roxanne Kamayani Gupta, scholar,

performer and author of "The Yogini's Mirror: A Yoga of Indian

Classical Dance," which I would highly recommend to anyone who is

serious about Yoga or Shaktism:

>From her publisher's page: "Roxanne Kamayani Gupta is a scholar of

Indian culture and comparative religion, a teacher of hatha and kriya

yoga, and an initiate of the Sri Vidya tantric tradition of goddess

worship. She holds a doctorate in Anthropology of Religion from

Syracuse University and is currently Assistant Professor of Religious

Studies at Albright College in Reading, Pennsylvania."

More good news: Professor Gupta is leading a first-of-its-kind

goddess pilgrimage in India next January. Here's what it's all about:

"Devi Yatra is the first and only tour designed as a

seminar/pilgrimage to sites of Goddess Worship in India. India may be

the only civilization on earth whose ancient Goddess traditions have

survived intact into the twentieth century.

"Visiting sites sacred to Sakti (a term for the Goddess which

describes Her basic aspect as primordial power) we will have a rare

chance to imbibe Her presence through the power of Her geographic

space, darshan (sacred vision) of Her many images, the rasa

(aesthetic flavor) of her art, dance and music, meetings with Her

devotees, as well as lectures and informal talks with Indian scholars

and other religious specialists."

dear db, welcome home!

we did miss you! nice to see you back!

db, you may not remember but you were kind enough to introduce us to

miss gupta in our shakti sadhana club a year ago and also posted her

website... i did check her website at that time and was fascinated by

the fact that she was able to combine both yoga and pure dance in her

chereography ! i was also impressed by the fact that she did spend a

considerable time in india to learn dance, yoga and be in touch with

local culture and customs! as a dancer, i am always fascinated by

such great personalities...what can be more spiritual than combining

yogic asanas and snchronise them with dance mudras. abinaya .,

postures etc!

thanks for letting us know about this 'devi' pilgrimage ! as you

know, i am myself planning to go to india sometime in march 2003

after my daughter delivers her second baby in feb! as god wills! this

is very interesting!

db, this group is great ' For devi is the presiding deity here! she keeps all

egos in check with her sword! no problem!

my computer is down ! so i am not able to use my messenger! i miss

talking to you! this is my local library computer where i volunteer!

love and thanx again for your wondeful presence!!

Thanks for this intro to the group. Unfortunately I had to cancel the

tour this year as people are afraid to go to India now given the world

political situation. Let us all pray for peace in the world because it

is very necessary for people, not just corporations to move around the

world and see with their own eyes the state of affairs.

Yours,

Roxanne Kamayani
