Guest guest
Hi my name is Frank and over time I have mostly chosen to visit this Group for 'darshan'. I lived in India for six years in the early '70s and since have been back on short yatras about ten times. One of the projects that has interested me the past few years is the formation of a web based guide for visiting the 'Shakti Peethams'. There is some web information about them and only one book that I know of which was originally published pre-partition "The Shakti Peethams" by D.C. Sircar. The object of this project would be to provide practical information (location and how you get there) basically for yatris. Certainly the famous one are quite easily accessable but there are many obscure ones also. Some are in Pakistan and others in Bagala Desh. Traditionally there are '51 Peethams', but like anything else in India some say there are '108'. One place dear to my heart is Sapthashringi near Nasik which is considered '1/2 of a Peetham'. If anyone knows the 'story' behaind this i would be interested. It seems many in this group like me visit India frequently so perhaps if you have visited these places we can combine our knowledge and provide information for future yatris. Also if anyone is traveling in the Nasik area and would like to visit Sapthashringi there is a small Ashram there where arangements can be made.
