Its noun forms mean variously: a purified being, a good being; created thing, world; uncanny being, spirit, ghost, goblin; past, fact, reality, actual occurence; welfare; elements, especially as applied to the five gross elements of earth, water, fire, air, and ether ... Here we are calling upon the friendly or the good bhUtas to destroy obstacles created by unfriendly or bad bhUtas. oM apasarpantu te bhUtA ya bhUtA bhuvi saMsthitAH | ye bhUtA vighnakarttAraste nashyantu shivaj~nayA || 'We consign to you friendly spirits, friendly spirits that are situated on this earth plane, the activity of destroying any obstacles placed by unfriendly spirits, by order of the Wisdom of Infinite Goodness.' oM bhUtapretapishAcAshca dAnavA rAkShasAshca ye | shAntiM kurvantu te sarve ImaM gr^hvatu madbalim || 'Hey ghosts, goblins, demons, unfriendly spirits and various forms of negativity projecting egos: you have been made entirely at peace. Please accept this offering from me.' oM vetAlAshca pishAcAshca rAkShasAshca sarIsupAH | apasarpantu te sarve nArasiMhena tADhitAH || 'Other demons, goblins, various forms of negativity projecting egos, creeping and crawling things: I consign to you compltely the striking blows of nArasiMha, viShNu in His incarnation of man-lion.'
