Guest guest
The Group Soul Have you ever been a member of a sports team? Have you ever played football, volleyball, basketball, hockey, or any other team sport? If you have, you are probably familiar with the term "team spirit." This refers to the fact that in order for a team to be successful, each member must surrender a certain portion of her/his individuality and become part of the team. Each member must place the benefit of the team before her/his own personal needs, otherwise the team is doomed to defeat. It can thus be said that the team as a whole has a spirit, a soul consisting of those portions of the individual souls that its members have contributed. The team thus acts as a unit, having its own beliefs, its own aims, its own beliefs. The best sports teams are not necessarily the ones with the best atheletes, but rather those that can coordinate their activities and work together for the good of the whole. Other examples of the same thing include crews of ships, army regiments, labor unions, theatrical casts, political parties, and many others. In each case, the group must work together for the benefit of all, or else the entire endeavor will fail. The ship crew is an interesting example. Sailors have traditionally been predominantly male, but they almost always refer to their ships as female. They personify their ships, thinking of them as living beings. But why female? Sailors are dependent on their ships the same way that a child is dependent on its mother. They must love her, protect her, and make certain that her needs are met, or else the warm womb that they find inside her bow will not survive. The ship is their mother. Religious groups of course develop group souls in much the same manner. This is precisely the reason why religious devotees all over the world gather in churches, synagogues, temples, and mosques to praise the Divine together. Everyone praying in unison creates a group soul, as every individual surrenders a piece of her/himself to the congregation. The group becomes something much stronger and much more meaningful than the sum of its parts. Everyone benefits from this. In giving a piece of your soul to the group, the group in turn gives of itself to you. You become stronger by drawing on the strength of others. you are not alone in your worship. Many others join you in singing and praying of the glory of the Divine Energy that each of you shares. We at Divinely Female sometimes face criticism from people who do not understand this. Our method of communicating with and worshipping the Divine involves activities that members of many other religions believe should be private, done only at home behind locked doors. All faith is private, involving the innermost personal thoughts and emotions inside the core of your being. But it is only by sharing such intensely private moments that each of us can grow at that very same private and innermost level. We need to share of our most personal souls so that each of us may draw strength and faith from those who share our search for peace and love. Group spirits can be dangerous. There have been a very large number of groups that have been fueled by hatred of others. The Nazis and the Ku Klux Klan are obvious examples, but there have been thousands of other such groups in human history. It is essential that we as loving, caring, compassionate individuals create and foster groups fueled by love. Let us all resolve to work together, pooling a portion of our individual souls, into a larger group soul dedicated to the cause of peace and universal love. ===== Sister Usha Devi Founder, Divinely Female and worshipper of the Sacred Flame that shines inside every woman Mail Plus - Powerful.
