Guest guest
This is answering both postings, basically it depends on the mantra you recite if it is an astra mantra then it is chanted loudly and fast (in rituals of marana, uchhatana), vidya mantras are whispered so that no one hears it and at a respective constant rate like most vidya mantras such as the famous om aim hreem kleem chamundai vicche is based on the anustap chandah so 36 syllabels per breath. It depends on your breathing, not time. You master a mantra when you can say it 108 in one breath hence the frequency changes as you go along with the sadhana. Only a stupid idiot will recite a mantra without meditation, when you say a tantric vidya mantra it is to invoke the diety not please the complementary rituals like the homa is there to please, you need to focus and concentrate so that the mantra takes seed. A mantra will not work unless it has been implanted in your bhuta agni and resonates in your bhuta agni. Kriya Yoga is hamsa Kriya when you take breath in through your throat and anus then push them in the opposite directions making you apana and prana go in different directions. Pranayama is this when you harmonise this with a mantra so inhaling at a count (mental count usually) of a certain number (let the number be x) then retaining it (2x) then taking it out (.5x). Bhuta Shuddhi in meditation is when you meditate on a particular diety (to one u are calling) later on focusing them on all your chakra areas, when you start off doing japa it be best that you meditate and do you rituals then message the area in between the rectum and scrotum where the muladhara resides (this is only for the first time you do you japa never again), (it does not reside in the physical body but the atma but when certain areas of you body are stimulated the link the muladhara has with your gross body also gets stimulated) well you will be stimulating atmic muladhara with this meditation. Japa is done when you combine all of this with a harmonious, constant and rhythmic repetition of the mantra. That is how proper japa is done. A best mantra to practice is on is the mrityunjaya mantra of lord shiva, tantric mantras tend to be a bit volatile for a beginner.
