Dear sir,

In your early communication of yours you were telling

the this great group regarding chandas you said that

anustub chandas means 32 times chanting a given mantra

with that chandas in a single kumbhaka.

could you kindly throw light about the following

chandas like trishtub chandas/ushnikchandas/jagatitya

chandas gayatri chandas etc or is this info available

somewhere in any text books. this info is very

intresting for me as i have not come across much book

on that subject. further why some practises like the

common pranayaam associated with gayatri has multiple

chandas.

I wish have this enlightment please

With warm regards

shankar

Namaste Sankar!

Whose post are you referring to? I have come across

different interpretations on what exactly chandas is.

The most common ones are 1) chandas is something to do

with intonation, there has to be an inflection of the

voice at certain points of chanting of the mantra 2)

chandas is a lost science esp. in this age of kali and

formerly this was known only to rishis of great

accomplishments.

So what exactly is chandas? Could someone kindly

enlighten me?

some people say that the chandas corresponds to the number of

syllables in the mantra. anustub has 32(eg mrityumjaya mantra),

ushnik has 28 and gayatri has 24(as all the different gayatris). i do

not think that this is all to the definition of chandas because the

chandi navakshari is supposed to be in all the three chandases-wonder

how that works out?

some others also say that the chandas kind of indicates the form of

the mantra eg-gayatris to different devatas all have vidmahe,

dheemahi and prochodayat, again there are exceptions to this too, so

this cannot be the definition of chandas?

I think I may be able to help, you see you have a mantra right, it has a

viniyogah basically that is the core of the mantra being outlined.

When you first say the viniyogah it acts as a sankalpa where you request the

diety for a particular thing by saying this mantra, the rishi is the master

who first realised this mantra before you start saying a mantra you must

place saluations to your ancestors, guru then this particular rishi to give

his/her blessings unto you.

Most mantras have hidden bijas, once you get all the correct bijas, Shakti

and keelkam you must join them together forming a new mantra. This has to be

recited certain amount of times before and after saying a mantra since it

acts as the utkilana mantra which frees the original mantra from any curse

or bondage.

To master a mantra you must say it a certain amount of times in a breath,

let me explain. All mantras are energy signatures they must have the right

rhythm and frequency to accurately resonate around your body. I can go on

and on about this, and if you want me to I can.

A mantra will NEVER work without these key features, when you get it from a

guru you usually don't have to do the utkilana thing that's it. That is why

it took me five years to call mother kali.
