Guest guest
I'm very new to the list and very much enjoying the discussions. But I find that there is much that I do not understand because there are so many words and ideas that I've never encountered before. Is there an online resource that any of you may be aware of that would help to define many of these terms? Also, I'm very interesting in learning more about sadhana but am having difficulty finding information online. Perhaps I am not looking in the right place. If anyone has a good resource for this, I would be most ingratiated! Blessings, Emaara Mail Plus - Powerful. Affordable. Sign up now
Guest guest
Namaskar Emaara: All members should feel free to ask about any words or ideas they do not understand, either by posting here on the list, or by sending a private e-mail to the Group moderators at - owner In the meantime, you may be able to get some basic orientation by referring to this online dictionary of Hindu terminology: http://www.himalayanacademy.com/books/dws/DWSLexicon.html "Sadhana" is a term that, in Sanskrit, means basically "effort" ... so, for instance, if you wanted to learn French, your sadhana would be studying the grammar, memorizing vocabulary lists, and practicing your listening and speaking skills in the language. If you wanted to run a marathon, then your sadhana would be appropriate dietary adjustments, endurance-building sessions in the gym and lots of road training. And if you want to surrender to and realize the Goddess, then your sadhana is Shakti Sadhana. What is Shakti Sadhana? That is a broad question -- something like asking, "What is Christianity?" or "What is Buddhism?" It is many different things to many different people. For some it is an intense cultivation of devotion; for some it is the practice of esoteric Tantric ritual; for some it is a process of knowledge -- for many, it is a combination of many such approaches. For an excellent introduction to Srividya, probably the most sophisticated and revered form of esoteric Shaktism, please see this presentation on our homepage (if you haven't seen the homepage, do poke around a bit -- you might find that quite a few of your questions are answered there): http://www.shaktisadhana.org/shaktatantra.html Good luck. And again, please don't hesitate to contact me or Nora or kochu1tz if you have any questions.
