Guest guest
GururBrahmaa GururVishnuhu, GururDevo Maheshwaraha, GururSakshaat Param Brahma, Tasmai Shri Gurave Namaha. The enlightened Guru is no other than Brahmaa the Creator, Vishnu the Preserver, and Shiva the destroyer. Guru is truly the Almighty Brahaman; our salutations to Him, the Divine Spiritual Master. MY SaLAUTATIONS TO MY MANASIKA GURUDEVA ! Folks, nora has raised a very important question specially right before the night of the Full Moon and before the auspicious DATTATREYA JAYANTI CELEBRATIONS TOMORROW, THE NIGHT OF FULL MOON... What is so special about a full moon night ? on a full moon night , the moon is so radiant full of uillimniation lighting up the whole sky ! so bright that one can even see one's reflection! simlarly the guru is like the FULL MOON! He illuminates us and removes ignorance or darkness or avidya- gu- means darkness and ru means removes! Our beloved dattatreya from the tantrik tradition lists 24 (upa) gurus and he claims that he learned from every one of his 24 upagurus- from a bee to a prostitute named pingala! LORD DATTATREYA is the very incarnation of lord vishnu nad he has written the jnana kand a of tripura rahasya ( a shakta treatise) ! he has also written an immortal classic called dattatreya gita... ********************************************************************** our nora has asked can the guru initiate one by the power of his/her thought? yes, an illumined Guru can give all types of initiations - it is called Diksha! di means - bestowal of knowledge of gOD/ESS KSHA means - the energy to digest or assimilate so the guru bestows the disciple with the knowledge and the disciple digests or assimilates this knowledge! what are these different types of Diksha? NAYANA DEEKSHA : ( dhristipat ) The Guru as God transmits his spiritual power to a devotee by a mere look. Bhaskaraya , the tantrik guru initiated many disciples by nayana diksha! ____________________ SPARISA DEEKSHA : The Guru as God transmits his spiritual power to a devotee by a touch of any part of the body especially in between the two eye-brows. GURU TOTAPURI gave shri ramakrishna paramahamsa sparsha diksha by piercing open his ajna chakra with a sharp piece of glass Shri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa touched Swami Vivekananda, he felt super conscious experience. ____________________ VAAKU DEEKSHA : Guru transmits power to a devotee by reciting a 'mantra' in his ear. this is a very well-known and popular form of diksha ! the guru recites a bija mantra into the ears of the disciple and this iis to be kept a closely guarded secret. ____________________ ****************** MANASA DEEKSHA : ***************************** Guru transmits his spiritual power to a devotee through his mind. this is a diksha which can be only performed by a guru who is spiritually very advanced and who himself is a swayam siddha. ____________________ SAATTHRIA DEEKSHA : The devotee's doubts are clarified by referring to the treatise of a Religion, by hearing and understanding and by pondering and analyzing. Guru guides him in this process. ____________________ YOGA DEEKSHA : Yoga training to his disciple which leads to integration of body, mind, intellect and soul. ____________________ AVITHTHIRI DEEKSHA : Those who are not fit to receive Deekshas by any one of the methods, can still be given Deekshas. If they otherwise deserve or the Guru desires, by involving them in a Yagna, which is called Aviththri Deeksha ********************************************************************** this list is by no means complete! there is a "preaka' guru - a guru who encorages the student to turn the mind inwards and guide him/her in the spiritual path. then there are "siksha" gurus who teaches the process of sadhana , then there is "shambhavi" diksha and "shaktipat" - may be some other learned member could throw light on this... the guru only starts the process but it is the disciple who has to do the work - the guru guides but the disciple should abide by the instructions of the guru ! this does not mean the disciple cannot ask questions but all questions should be asked in a 'humble' manner and not in a 'challenging' manmner! ********************************************************************* web gurus and upagurus! i have had several gurus in my life - my first guru is none other than my own 'divine' mother who gave birth to me ! she taught me many things - all motherly qualities- compassion, forgiveness, kindness , etc... but the final guru is the one who gives you 'brahma' jnana! It has been my fortune that i have met several people on the web who have helped me tremendously in my spiritual path- my guru who initiated me with a bija mantra is not even there in his 'physical; body to guide me in my day to day sadhana! but, believe me whenever i have a question or doubt, i always get my answers from some source or the other! in the past few years, i have also met sree maa (a tantrik guru). ammachi (maa amritanadamayee ), sree sivaya subramoniya swamy etc... i am sure meeting them has definitely changed my life in some way! and now just when i was thinking i have to go to india to learn 'srre vidya' worship, a dear web friend has given me the name of a sree vidya guru right here in new york, just a few hours away from where i live... I BOW TO SHRI DAKSHINAMURTHY , THE MAUNA GURU I BOW TO ADI SHANKARA, THE JAGAD GURU! I BOW TO SHRI RAMKRISHNA PARAMAHAMSA, I BOW TO SHRI RAMANA MAHARISHI I BOW TOMSHRI AUROBINDO i bow to shri dattatreya ABOVE ALL I BOW TO the divine mother , the creatrix of one and all!
