Guest guest
I wish a very Merry Christmas to all the Christians on this list. May The Lord bless you and bring joy and peace to your heart and to your family. May the love and charity that Christians profess during the holiday season persist throughout the year. I am not a Christian myself, but I have lived in a Christian country (USA) 26 years. I have found the average Christian to be a warm, generous, loving person. This is of course fitting. Jesus taught love and compassion above all else. He was a wise teacher who should be honored and respected as a just and noble philosopher by persons of all faiths. Some of his followers in more recent years have failed to live up to his teachings, but this is their fault, not his. It is my firm belief that everyone has something to teach, and that only a fool believes s/he has nothing to learn. I have learned much from my Christian neighbors, and I have long hoped that they might learn a little from me. Christian theology teaches that God the Father loved humanity so much that he sent his only son, Jesus, to visit the earth. Jesus died a painful, humilitating death at the hands of the Romans so that humanity could be free. Hinduism, likewise, maintains that the gods love humanity and protect us from harm. Vishnu has visited the earth many times. Durga and Kali fought long battles against armies of demons intent on enslaving humanity. Thus although we differ in detail, we agree on principles. We are to be grateful to the Divine for creating and protecting us, and for loving us all despite our human imperfections. Tomorrow, I shall join my husband's sister and her family for a great Christian feast. My sister-in-law is herself a Christian minister. I have no reservations about this; I am grateful to her for accepting me into her home despite my difference in faith. Although I remain true in my heart to my love of Mother Kali, I shall gladly raise a glass of wassail and sing songs of a baby born in a barn in Bethlehem, and wish all my friends and in-laws a very merry Christmas.
