Vastu, a Registered Trademark in Germany Source: http://rediff.com BERLIN, GERMANY, Dec 26, 2002: After the patents of neem and turmeric, it is now the turn of Vastu, an ancient Indian architectural philosophy. It was recently discovered by the Delhi-based Vastu Shastra Institute that Vastu had been registered as a trademark nearly five years ago by a German company. They are considering legal recourse against the registration. "We found out that the term Vastu is a registered trademark in Germany and under the World Trade Organization rules, companies in other countries cannot use the word Vastu in any commercial venture. We are planning to fight the registration and will examine what legal recourse we can take under the German trademark law," Ashwini Bansal, director of the institute, said in New Delhi. Bansal said the fact came to light during his interaction with German Vastu scholar Marcus Schmieke, who had been taken to court by a Germany-based company Samhita, which has registered the term, for using Vastu in his academy's name. Subsequently, he had to change the name of his academy from Vastu Academy to "Vasati." When contacted Schmieke said that the trademark for Vastu was given to Samhita, a Maharishi Mahesh Yogi run institute, sometime in 1998-99. Bansal said no Indian company has registered the term Vastu, even though the science has existed in the country since the Vedic period. "We find the mention of Vastu in the Rig Veda," he said. Guest guest
The very basic premise is wrong. Sanskrit is not a dead language. "Frank Martin <sriprank" <sriprank wrote: 4. Guest guest
OM Frank The Maharishi Mahesh Yogi group of companies are indeed money-hungry and unsattvic. My first Yoga teacher thought it was wrong when that group originally trademarked the term, 'Transcendental Meditation': he too tried to stop them legally. Alas, he was not successful. TM or the Transcendental Meditation Group in nothing but a pyramid selling scheme. A free course or two is offered, then the prospective client as asked to take other courses for a fee. The list of courses is endless with one leading to another and the fees are high. Many pay up to $10,000.00 and more in order to learn how to perform 'yogic flying': all this despite the injunctions in scripture and by masters against trying to develop the siddhis directly or to use them in any ego-based way if they do arise. There are several lawsuits in the US against the Maharishi's organization. One can only hope that they succeed better than your example or mine. Guest guest
T>he Maharishi Mahesh Yogi group of companies are >indeed >money-hungry and unsattvic. My first Yoga teacher namaste Ompremjji, That was well worded, a profit making corporation is the right term for the TM group. On yogic flying, I am convinced that the yogic flying is not a total sham, although the number of flyers is 1 in 100,000,lol(I have read reports from some credible people that only a few people have this capability) and true they do charge exorbitant fees for this course, definitely unsattwic. Personally my viewpoint on siddhies, is that it does not hurt to have one or two siddies- in most cases display of a siddhi will awaken in rank materialists the possiblity of a higher life. Of course there is the danger that one would end up pursueing siddhies than try to reach God, IMHO, this is definitely preferable to not pursuing siddhies or God and again IMHO, the desire for God should truly come from within oneself, someone else telling you that you should pursue God over siddhies is not very convincing to the neophyte . Without a doubt, when studying under a great MASTER, pursuing siddhies is like looking for copper coins when one is in possession of a lot of gold coins. But how many such masters are there around?
