Here and everywhere there is a continuous effort, sometimes

strong, sometimes subtle of evaluating and comparing spiritual

paths or visions of God(s) and Goddess(es). Usually a person

will describe his/her own spiritual path eloquently, passionately

sensitively and with devotion because it strikes deep chords in

him/her and he/she has attempted to follow it in their everyday

life and so taken it out of the realm of philosophy and into the

more vital realm of Self-realization. But that same person, even

with the best of intention, will describe other paths with less

charity, sensitivity and devotion because they do not have the

same deep resonance with that other path and so do not

understand it at a profound level.

Here are some comments on duality by Jalaluddin Rumi, a great

Sufi poet:

"Seek the wisdom that will untie your knowing; see the path that

demands your whole being. Leave that which is not, but appears

to be; seek that which is, but is not apparent."

I am neither Christian, nor Jew,

    nor Gabr, nor Muslim.

I am not of the East, nor of the West,

    nor of the land, nor of the sea;

I am not of Nature's mint,

    nor of the circling heavens.

I am not of India, nor of China,

    not of Bulgaria, nor of Saqsin;

I am not of the kingdom of Iraq,

nor of the land of Khorasan.

My place is the Placeless,

    my trace is the Traceless.

'Tis neither body nor soul,

for I belong to the soul of the Beloved.

I have put duality away,

I have seen that the two worlds are one.

I seek one, I know one, I see one, I call one.

Here, also on Duality and Advaita Vedanta, is the

Nirvaansatakam, Six Verses of Liberation, by Sadguru

Sankaracharya:

Mano Buddhy Ahamkaar Chittaani Naaaham

Na Cha Shrotrajihve Na Cha Ghraannetre

Na Cha Vyom Bhoomir Na Tejo Na Vaayuh

Chidaanandaroopah Shivoham Shivoham

I am neither ego not reason, I am neither mind nor thought.

I cannot be heard nor cast into words, nor by sight, nor smell

ever caught

In light and wind I am not found, nor yet in earth and sky.

Consciousness and Joy Incarnate, Bliss of the Blissful am I.

Na Cha Praansamgne Na Vai Panchvaayuh

Na Vaa Saptadhaatur Na Vaa Panchkoshah

Na Vaak Paanipaadam Na Chopasthpayoo

Chidaanandaroopah Shivoham Shivoham

I have no name, I have no life, I breathe no vital air,

No elements have moulded me, no bodily sheath is my lair:

I have no speech, no hands and feet, nor means of evolution

Consciousness and Joy am I, and Bliss in dissolution

Na Me Raagdweshay Na Me Lobhamohau

Mado Naiva Me Naiva Maatsaryabhaavah

Na Dharmo Na Chaartho Na Kamo Na Moksah

Chidaanandaroopah Shivoham Shivoham

I cast aside hatred and passion, I conquered delusion

and greed,

No touch of pride caressed me, so envy never did breed,

Beyond all faiths, past reach of wealth, past freedom,

past desire,

Consciousness and Joy am I, and Bliss is my attire.

Na Punyam Na Paapam Na Saukhyam Na Duhkharm

Na Mantro Na Tirtham Na Vedaa Na Yagnah

Aham Bhojanam Naiva Bhojyam Na Bhoktaa

Chidaanandaroopah Shivoham Shivoham

Virtue and vice, or pleasure and pain are not my heritage,

Nor sacred texts, nor offerings, nor prayer, nor pilgrimage:

I am neither food nor eating, nor yet the eater am I

Consciousness and Joy incarnate, Bliss of the Blissful am I.

Na Me Mrutyushankaa Na Me Jaatibhedah

Pitaa Naiva Me Naiva Maataa Cha Janmah

Na Bandhur Na Mitram Guru Naiva Shishyah

Chidaanandaroopah Shivham Shivoham

I have no misgivings of death, no chasms of race divide me,

No parent ever called me child, no bond of birth ever tied me,

I am neither disciple nor master, I have no kin, no friend

Consciousness and Joy am I, and merging in Bliss is my end.

Aham Nirvikalpo Niraakaar Roopo

Vibhutvachcha Sarvatra Sarvendriyaanaaam

Sadaa Me Samatvam Na Muktir Na Bandhad

Chidaanandaroopah Shivoham Shivoham

Neither knowable, knowledge, nor knower am I, formless

is my form,

I dwell within the senses but they are not my home:

Ever serenely balanced, I am neither free nor bound,

Consciousness and Joy am I, and Bliss is where I am found.

And, finally, here is an extract of one Swami Sivananda's

favourite bhajans that also reflects with duality:

Bhajo Radhe Krishna, Bhajo Radhi Shyama

Om Om Om Om Om Om Om Om Om Om Om Om

Soham, Soham, Soham, Shivoham

I am that I am, I am that I am

I am neither body, nor mind. Immortal Self am I

I am not this body, this body is not mine.

I am not this mind, this mind is not mine.

I am not this Prana, this Prana is not mine

I am not these senses, these senses are not mine

I am not this intellect, this intellect is not mine

I am not these emotions, these emotions are not mine.

I am that I am, I am that I am

I am that I am, I am that I am

I am witnes of three states, Existence Absolute

I am witness of three states, Knowledge Absolute

I am witness of three states, Bliss Absolute

I am witness of threee states, Bliss Absolute

I am Satchidananda, I am Satchidananda

Existence, Knowledge, Bliss Absolute

I am mind of all minds, Prana of all Pranas

I am Soul of all Souls, Self of all Selves

I am Atman in all Beings, apple in all eyes

I am Sun of all suns, Light of all lights

I am Pranava of all Vedas, Brahman of Upanishads

I am silence in forests, thunder in all clouds

I am velocity in electrons, motion in science

I am effulgence in the sun, wave in the radio

I am support of this world, sould of this body

I am ear of all ears, eye of all eyes

I am power in electricity, intelligence in mind

I am brilliance in fire, penance in ascetics

I am reason in philosophers, will in Jnanis

I am Prem In Bhaktas, Samadhi in Yogis.

Bhajo Radhe Krishna, Bhajo Radhe Shyama

Bhajo Radhe Krishna Bhajo Radhe Shyama

Loka Samasta Sukhino Bhavantu

May the whole world attain peace and harmony
