Guest guest
Namaste, the mudra in which Dakshinamoorthy is usually shown is called Jnana mudra- this mudra is formed by doing chin-mudra(tips of thumb and index finger touching, other three fingers stretching straight out) using both the hands. The left arm stays on the thigh and the right arm is raised to shoulder level. This mudra as the name implies makes you a person of great learning, also it removes addictions of various kinds, clarifies the mind and gives the gift of speech. Other saints are also shown in this mudra like the Buddha, sometimes Adi Sankara etc. yogaman Message: 4 Mon, 13 Jan 2003 22:49:58 -0800 (PST) krishnamoorthy shankar <junk74_in Dashinamoorthy mudraDear friends, Recently there was a topic on the 'dakshinamoorthy astakam' of the great shri aadi shankara charya there there is a mention of 'balya .. Guest guest
I thought as much. But I did not want to put my foot in my mouth!!I I have also heard that swami Vivekananda came to Kerala just to learn this Mudra and he stayed in my aunt's house where he met the great ri vidya upasaka "Chattambi swamikal" and learnt the mudra from him. There is more to the mudra than the various pysical contortion, I think. Guest guest
Namaste Sri Kochuji! You mention that "Chattambi swamikal" was a srividya upasaaka. Is this true? I was not aware of this. Chattambi Swamikal actually is my and my parents Paramaguru or parameshti guru(guru's guru's guru whichever that is, i always get confused between the two). I have heard of this meeting between the two saints and Swami Vivekananda commented on what a remarkable person Chattambi Swamigal was. VOW, your aunts house is a great piece of history- i suppose it has not been converted into a Vivekananda memorial of some kind right? And I forgot to mention, this mudra has to be practiced around 1-2 hours daily for effects. Though I would very much like to be person of immense knowledge, this 1-2hour thing has really put me off from practicing it- after all knowledge does not come that easily:-)And you are right, there is more to this mudra than just the physical action esp. if SWami Vivekananda had to come down to Kerala just for this(though I personally think that Swamiji was doing his India tour after his America address and he happened to be passing through Kerala).
