Hi.

 

When the articles speak of 'sati worship' I don't think they are referring

to the practice itself. They are talking about people today honouring those

who performed the practice in the past.

 

Women who ended their lives that way have for centuries been considered as

saints, and as such have had memorial shrines where people would come and

pray to them. (Comparable to the Catholic practice of praying to martyrs.)

 

As I understand it, the debate in India now is whether shrines like this

should be legal.
