I have been a member for a short time now, and I have been enjoying

the discussions.

I have a question that I am hoping someone can help me with. Does

anyone have any information on a diety named Bhairon, or perhaps

Bhairav? He is supposed to be an incarnation of Lord Shiva, and I

think also a consort of Kali Ma.

Any information would be appreciated..

Greetings,

Errrr well about Bhairavar or Bhairav,he is said to be an aspect of

Siva, and the oddest part is that he uses a dog as his vehicle and he is said to

be quite a fierce form.Well i will try to update more about him!. But i guess he

is not the consort of Kali.

That's the one! He is supposed to be VERY fierce.

I believe the mantra used to seek his protection begins

"Om haring bhairave bhairav, thekarhar maang raksha raksha hoong

phut svaha"

I was sure I remembered there being some link with Kali ma, though..

Any further information would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so

much!

Greetings,

Madhava Prabhu has given you a correct, succinct answer. Bhairava is

generally understood to be a terrifying form of Shiva. However, there

is also another understanding of "Bhairava" within a particular

Shaiva tradition, the Trikas. "Bhairava" is their reference for the

Absolute Brahman; being a conglomeration of the

words 'bharana', 'ravana' and 'vamana' - respectively meaning He who

maintains, destroys and projects(creates). In other words the Supreme

Isvara who is Vishnu, Shiva and Brahma.

Cheers!

Please visit:

You will find Bhairava's yantra and an english translation of the

Netra Tantra which unravels some of the mystery about Bhairava.

Namaste!

A form of Bhairava called Vatuka Bhairava is to be propitiated before

proceeding on the Kali Mahavidya- this is as far as I know the

relation between Kali and Bhairava.

Bhairava or Bhaironji is a powerful tantric deity- very quick

results come from his worship and sometimes meat and alcohol are used

in his sadhana.
