looking for Saraswati & Ganesh songs

Hello all

I have acces to many songs for Devi in her many shapes & forms

(Thanks to Krishna Das's & Wah's music..) BUT I am having problems

finding songs to Saraswati & Ganesha (I know, not Devi)..

Can anyone head me in the right direction?

Hi Paula:

 

Your mention of Krishna Das and Wah indicates (to me) that your taste

may run more toward modern rather than traditional treatments of

devotional music. In which case, you might like Aditya Verma's

CD "Saraswati Devi," which includes an invocation to Ganesh, followed

by spoken and musical devotions to Saraswati Devi.

 

Verma, the composer of the disc, is a youngish Indian sarod maestro

residing in Canada; his main vocalist is another Indian-Canadian,

Kala Ramnath -- she has quite a lovely voice. The tracks are: Shri

Ganapati Stotram; Naad Ki Devi, The Majesty of Saraswati Devi;

Saraswati Stuti; The Power of the Saraswati Mantra; Gyan Vigyan;

Saraswati Ma Vandana; Forgiveness Prayer; The Saraswati Mantra; Namo

There is an excellent modern treatment of the Sanskrit

hymn "Mamavatu" (directed to Saraswati) on Susheela Raman's recent

If you're willing to explore the more traditional devotional song

forms (which is more my area of interest), I'd highly recommend Sudha

Ragunathan's "Saraswathi Anthadhi" a full-CD devotion to Saraswati

Devi in the Carnatic (South Indian classical vocal) style; her

collection "Dhevi Krithis" ("Hymns to the Goddess") also includes

Saraswati-focused compositions. Nithyasree Mahadevan's "Ragam 1"

contains a beautiful Saraswati hymn, as does Sowmya's "Devi Krithis" -

- all these CD's can be found at most South Asian music shops; if you
