1.Shivratri - Shiva's holy night:

The 13th (or 14th) night in the dark half of every lunar month is

said to be a shivratri - the holy night of Shiva. The greatest of

these nights, the Mahashivratri, comes in the month of Maga, February-

March, when the mists of winter make way for spring. Read the

2.Shiva - The Destroyer

Shiva manifested himself as the Destroyer; and that attribute has

struck to him. Since all things are subject to decay and

destruction, it was necessary to have the Destroyer, or indirectly

the Re-creator; allowing all forms of existence to manifest

themselves. Death is not death, but simply a manifestation into a

new life. So he is Shiva, the Bright One. Read the complete article:

3.SYMBOLS OF SHIVA

The best known symbol of Shiva is the trishul or trident,

representing the three aspects of nature, the sattva, rajas and

tamas; the three functions, as Creator, Preserver and Destroyer; it

also symbolises lightning, so Shiva is the god of storms. Read the

4.Significance of Shivratri

Shiva rathri is one of the most auspicious vratas. The puranaas

explain the significance of this vrata. Once when everything in all

the worlds got reduced into Lord shiva, in that darkness of nothing

present, the Mother Parvati worshipped Lord shiva in the Agamic way

with great devotion. Read the complete article:
