Guest guest
I am trying (TRYING *smile*) to start a series on what Shakthi sadhana is and what are its formal rules. I pray to my Guru and Devi Mahaasaraswathi to help me finish the series with clarity and achieve its purpose. We all are worshipping or trying to worship Sakti in his/her own ways. All modes of worship lead to the same result; but organised worship as its name indicates is more organised and is "thought" to give results faster. The method of sadhana is compressed into a few couplets by the great ones of yesterday as follows: PraathaH krutyaadi sandhyaandaH bhooshudhyaadi krameNa ca Kuryaat mukhyamantraan anya manthraan sakrujjapeth. Poojayettu kadhayaschidwaa shakthiprajnaanu saarathaH Stotram ca kavacam ca namnaavalimcapi nityasha Aevam naithyakarmasthu saadhakaanan tu sammathaH A person who daily does his "praathakrutyam" - the morning rituals from the moment of waking upto bathing; then does the morning worship of the Sandhya – the cusp between night and day; and does bhooshuddhi, bhoodhashuddhi and other rituals; Then does japa of the Main mantra and some (a few times – usually one each) of the other mantras ( called rashmi mala) followed by pooja according to shaaktha tradition that followed by stotras (praises in the form of poetry) kavachas (armours to protect you from the daily onslaught of negative energy) and namaavalis (like ashtothara, sahasranamas – that form a sort of meditation so that you can slowly visualise the Shakthi and personalise her/him/it; is accepted as a true sadhaka by other sadhakas. Guest guest
Thank you Kochuji for this first post in Shakti Sadhana. It is indeed a pleasant surprise and I look forward for further series. For the sake of our members who might not be familiar with certain terms, there are the questions that I have in mind that I hope you might explain to us : 1. you said "bhooshuddhi, bhoodhashuddhi and other rituals" Can you explain these and why do we need to do these rituals first? 2. When doing Japa is it best to do it mentally or verbally. From my understanding there are two forms of Japa : Vacika ( oral ) another is Manasika ( mental) and it is said that for a new comer its best to do their japa orally. Is it true? Guest guest
Namaskaram Sri Kochuji! Thank you immensely for this formal shakthi sadhana post and I look forward to reading the remainder of the posts. In the meanwhile I have a question- it has been impressed on me by a lot of my mentors and teachers and some very famous gurus that one must practice one mantra alone and have devotion to one ishta deva alone throughout ones life; i too have noticed that when one practices prolonged practice of one mantra at a time, it brings faster results. Yet in Srividya one finds that different mantras are practiced at different times and different deities are propriated gradually going to Mother Tripurasundari herself- in fact i have heard that Devi cannot be realised other than through the 15 nithyas. Why is this so? yogaman , "kochu1tz <kochu1tz>" <kochu1tz> wrote: > I am trying (TRYING *smile*) to start a series on what Shakthi > sadhana is and what are its formal rules. Guest guest
Infact thats a peculiarity I have noticed with srividya. a lot of mantras of diverse groups are involved. Thats why it is said "kuryaat muhkyamantran, anyamantraan sakrujjapet". I THINK it is because once you get siddhi in one mantra one gets siddhi in all; by the time you get siddhi in one mantra, you are also familiar with others. Infact in the BIG puja of sriyantra you have whst is called amnaya Pooja where you have HUNDREDS of mantras. I think the acharyas thought that one should not be a "specialist" but a generalist. I was waiting to see whether any one was interested before proceeding to answer Nora's questions and to post the first step namely PrataHkrutyam Kochu Kochu childofdevi <childofdevi wrote:Namaskaram Sri Kochuji! Guest guest
Yes, yes we are very interested. Another question- can these sadhanas that you writing up be practiced by anyone? and could you enumerate the restrictions if any for practising these. you had posted a long time back some mantras from the rashmi-mala i think; perhaps if you could explain them in the proper context of the sadhana, that too would be very useful for practicising sadhaks. yogaman > I was waiting to see whether any one was interested before proceeding to answer Nora's questions and to post the first step namely PrataHkrutyam > Kochu > Kochu > childofdevi <childofdevi> wrote:Namaskaram Sri Kochuji! > > Thank you immensely for this formal shakthi sadhana post and I look > forward to reading the remainder of the posts. > > In the meanwhile I have a question- it has been impressed on me by a > lot of my mentors and teachers and some very famous gurus that one > must practice one mantra alone and have devotion to one ishta deva > alone throughout ones life; i too have noticed that when one > practices prolonged practice of one mantra at a time, it brings > faster results.
