Prayer of Peace

by Sister Usha Devi, Founder of Divinely Female, 2003

I say Hail to Inanna, Great Lady of Heaven!

Proud Queen of the Earth Gods, supreme among the

heaven gods,

I say Hail to Inanna, First Daughter of the Moon!

The gods of heaven and earth kneel before you.

O noble Queen! We, your children, kneel before you.

We bake your bread, we brew your beer, we sheer your

sheep.

And we are content.

We wish no more than to live in peace,

Baking, and brewing, and sheering,

And singing songs of praise in honor of your divine

radiance.

But your land is not a land of peace.

Your land is one of strife.

Many times have the skies blackened.

Many times have the trumpets blared.

Many times has the sword been unsheathed.

Many times have your temples burned

With smoke that chokes all who try to sing your hymns.

Too many times has the land been stained with the

blood of those who love you.

O Noble Queen! Inanna, Queen of Heaven and Earth!

The sky darkens once again.

Drums sound in the distance.

The theat of yet more bloodshed looms ever closer.

We beg you, sweet Inanna, Great Lady of Heaven,

Bring love to the hearts of all.

Break the swords and crumble them to dust!

Bury the chariots of war beneath a thousand tons of

sand!

Bring together those who preach hate.

May they eat the bread that we have baked,

Drink the beer that we have brewed,

And wear the same garments, made from wool that we

have sheered,

And may they all sing songs of praise and love

For the wise and beautiful Inanna, First Daughter of

the Moon.
