Guest guest
The discussions re Tara and Mahalakshmi lead me to ask 2 questions: 1) There is supposed to be a sahasranama stotram to Tara in the BrhadNila Tantra. Does anyone know anything about this? How to find it? 2)At the MusicIndiaOnLine website there is a Sanskrit stotram called Sri Mookambika Ashtakam, sung by the Sulamangalam sisters. I have been trying to write it down without success. It begins "namaste jagaddhaatri....." Does anyone know this stotram or where it can be found in written form? Thank-you and Jai Ma, Gita

You will find a reference to the Brihad Nila Tantra at:- http://www.shivashakti.com/tara.htm As regards the sahasranama stotram to Tara you will find a reference to Tara here (number 20), but I don't think it's quite what you're looking for:- http://www.hinduweb.org/home/general_sites/sita/sitakasansar/1-50.htm However, would you be able to explain the reference to "Venus" in this section to me, please? > 2)At the MusicIndiaOnLine website there is a Sanskrit stotram called > Sri Mookambika Ashtakam, sung by the Sulamangalam sisters. Guest guest
-Namaste m6-Thank-you for the references. Re reference to Venus: I'm not sure. Venus=Shukra usually. Looked Tara up in the Sanskrit dictionary but could not find a connection there. Looked it up in Bhaskaraya's commentary on Lalita Sahasranam. There Tara is defined as "star". In fact, in the Lalita Saharanam printed by Ammachi Publications Tara also =star. It's a mystery to me. Maybe Tara is the name for one of the other bright stars in the sky,but probably not Venus. In the Lalita Sahasranam the Mother is associated with the brilliance of the dawn, the rising sun etc. Is Venus seen at dawn? If it is, then maybe the association comes from that-poetically rather than factually. Guest guest
Namaste, Yes, my apologies - the 'tara' reference appears to be to a luminary, and not the Devi Tara. but I noticed at this url the word was interpreted as 'star', http://www.ambaa.org/lalita/LSv3.htm whereas at this one, it is interepreted as 'Venus' - http://www.hinduweb.org/home/general_sites/sita/sitakasansar/1-50.htm and so presumably 'tara' has a dual meaning here, of 'star' and of 'Venus'? Venus is the brightest 'star', it is called the Morning Star or the Evening Star, depending on when it is visible above the horizon, at dawn or at dusk. Venus as the Morning Star has great significance for Buddhism, since it heralded the Enlightenment of the Lord Buddha. Kind thanks, m6 , "gitavs" <gitaprana@v...> wrote: > -Namaste m6-Thank-you for the references. Re reference to Venus: I'm > not sure. Venus=Shukra usually. My copy is at work, so I can't confirm at the moment if it is selected from the Brhad-Nila Tantra. No doubt there are several "Tara-sahasranama-s" in existence. The distinguishing characteristic of the one in the SHAKTA-PRAMODA is that each name begins with "ta." The SHAKTA-PRAMODA is currently in print and is worth purchasing if you are interested in Devi-nama stotras and can navigate Sanskrit. I ordered my copy from D.K. Agencies in New Delhi. Just to follow up on this post -- the SHAKTA-PRAMODA's "Taratakaradi-sahasranama" ("A thousand names of Tara beginning with the letter 'Ta'") is from the BRAHMA-YAMALA , not the BRHAD-NILA TANTRA.
