Greeting group members, it's a pleasure to be a part of this group.

I just wanted to say that. Thank you.

Q..I maybe traveling to South India next year and just wandering if

there are restriction on non Indian people entering the temples etc?

I spoke with a friend and he mention that there may be problems

entering some temples.

Thanks

I am sure as far as North India is concerned, there are no restrictions.

In South India, yes there are some restrictions in non-hindus entering temples.

Note the usage not non-indians but non-hindus. But many temples allow even

westerners in if they give a declaration that they to Hindu bliefs.

The restrictions I think are more pronounced in Kerala. But on the declaraion

being given there will be no problem. Normally nobody will bother you; but it is

safer to inquire at the temple office and verify the formality required.

>From my experiences in visiting temples in Southern India, there are

restrictions. But this restriction is not in entering the temple per

se, but, in entering the main complex where the worship occurs. You

are generally free to wander about in the rest of the temple complex.

I have noticed these restrictions at Sriramgam in Tamil nadu and

some other temples in Karnataka. But generally, if u visit the place

with reverence and humbleness, u can get inside as well. What the

temple authorities do not like, nor encourage is the curiority ridden

people who treat a place of worship more like a tourist attraction

than a place of reverence and devotion.

So...in places where there are no restrictions on non-hindus(very few

places), with proper attitude and behaviour, one can go to almost

every place a hindu can visit. Hope this helps.
