Guest guest
OM Aspirants Upon reading the file article, Geometry of Circannual Rhythms, by K. Chandra Hari,I found this statement, "Some adepts of this form of yoga [Hatha]have developed powers which cannot fully be accounted for by European medical science and which cannot be explained away as subjective but the physiological basis of laya - and hatha -yoga is certainly false; there is no kun.dalinī, susumna or sahasrāra." Never has any adept claimed that there is a physiological basis for laya/hatha yoga. In fact, quite to the contrary, any informed person will state categorically that there is no physiological basis laya/hatha yoga. Furthermore, to claim as the author does that as there is no physiological basis for laya/hatha yoga, therefore, there is no kundalini, sushumna or sahasrara, is an egregious violation of the rules of logic. One conclusion simply does not and cannot follow from the other. The truth of the matter is that the astral body, i.e. the system of chakras and nadis, has a particular shape and the human body takes its shape because of the shape of the astral body. In humans, there are points of correspondence between the astral and physical bodies but there is not identity. The entire point of laya/hatha yoga is rise above identification with the physical. The astral and physical bodies have correspondence at various nerve plexii and also parts of the endocrine system. The astal and physical systems influence each other but remain independent of each other. Death, as we know, is defined as the astral body simply leaving the physical body through the sahasrara chakra and severing all connection with it I have heard and read many people trying to discredit the idea of an astral body because they were attempting to evaluate it from physiological and western scientific viewpoints. This approach is a non-starter and doomed to failure. The conceptual and logical mistakes of these people is not justification for the denunciation of the chakra/nadi system.
