Guest guest
I have a question for those of you who care to respond. Which form of Devi would you ask for blessings of fertility? My husband and I have been struggling with infertility for 4 years now. I concieved, but miscarried recently. It was a sad time, but it let us know that there is hope. I feel that the time is coming soon and I want to set up an altar. We are both Ganesha and Saraswati devotees. I've also worked with Durga and Kali and Parvati. Of all of these, Parvati seems the best option, but something just doesn't seem right about it... I also thought about Tara, my husband gave me a beautiful statue of her as a gift years ago... I've called to her in several forms for several reasons, but none seems right for this cause... Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. Guest guest
Namaste Allison, I don't know which form of the Devi might be best for you at this time, but I do know what a deeply emotional issue this can be. I am sure that Devi can help you, is there with you. Perhaps only She can truly understand. My thoughts and warm wishes go out to you. I hope that loving evidence of Her presence gives you the support, strength and comfort that you require. Guest guest
Dear Allison, There is a hindu Goddess Called Manasa devi or simply Manasi . She is also known as Sree Nageshweri Devi, this Goddess is known as the goddess of *fertility* and snakes. She is popular in Bengal and some parts of South India. Women who desire to conceive and have children perform a daily puja to this goddess with an offering of 'MILK' - IT is believed snakes are pleased with milk offerings- hence this custom- milk is also a symbol of 'motherhood.' I would encourage you to read posts number 2827 , 2830, 2831 , 2833 and 2854. Not too long ago, shakti sadhana had featured Sree NageshwerI Devi Or Manasa Devi as 'goddess of the week.' meanwhile, i wish you all the best and hope your household will be blessed with lovely children. May the Goddess shower her choicest blessings on you! Worshipping Parvati devi also seems to be agreat idea because Parvati devi is the mother of two popular Gods, Ganesha and Karthikeya. Much love to you!
Guest guest
Hi Allison, Here is a suggested sadhana to help you obtain the blessings of fertility. MANTRA SADHANA MEDITATION:- This Sadhana is made up of two phases, and should be undertaken for a forty day period! Phase 1 is twice daily meditation for about thirty minutes for each period. Phase 2 is chanting your chosen mantra as often as possible throughout your day. Phase 1-silent meditation: 1. Sit comfortably facing east, close your eyes, and Begin this meditation with five minutes of thinking, very quietly the Ganesha (Ganapathi) mantra – `'Om Gum Ganapatayei Namaha.'' As you are doing this focus on the essence of Ganesh (Ganapathi) as the obstacle remover, and the bringer of prosperity, affluence and success! 2. Then stop, wait 15 to 30 seconds and then….. 3. Start thinking, very quietly the mantra – `'Aham Prema.'' As you are doing this focus on `Love,' do this for about a minute. 4. Then stop, wait 15 to 30 seconds and then….. 5. Start doing 20 minutes of effortless meditation using the mantra `'SHRING''. At the end of this meditation, after you have stopped thinking your mantra…. 6. Introduce the idea of stillness, and drift back into that stillness for 15 to 30 seconds and then…. 7. Focus your attention on your 3rd eye chakra, feeling the energy there, and begin to silently chant the "Om Gum Ganapatayei Namaha" mantra. Actually chant this mantra in your 3rd eye chakra- the mantra is actually thought in this area! 8. After chanting, visualize whatever you want to create, imagine it as fully formed, completely realized, and in the `Here and now!' 9. When your visualization is fully formed, real, and uplifting, Breathe seven deep breaths into it, and Then silently chant "Om Gum Ganapatayei Namaha" some more and allow this mantra to penetrate the image. You have to see, in picture form, the thing you want to create. Once it feels complete, just let it go, allowing the Universe to handle the details! 10. At the end of this meditation, take your time coming out and back to the surface of your mind. The transition from a subtle level of mind to the gross level of mind must be smooth, gradual, and natural. Phase 2- chanting your chosen mantra as often as possible throughout your day. **** Throughout your day you should remember to chant the mantra "Om Gum Ganapatayei Namaha" as many times as possible, either silently, or out loud! While doing household chores, you will say the mantra, in the shower, on a walk, grocery shopping, while driving your car, and in a whole host of other daily situations! As you chant the mantra, try to have some part of your mind focused on your desired result! 1) According to Thomas Ashley-Farrand - Mantra combined with intention increases physical and spiritual benefits. When we combine the physical energy of mantra, the sound vibration, with the mental energy of intention and attention, we increase, strengthen, and direct the energetic effect of mantra. Intention, the reason we are saying the mantra, is carried on the physical vibration, producing an effect. This is the essence of Sanskrit mantra. In Phase 1-silent meditation, during the initial chanting of "Om Gum Ganapatayei Namaha," the intention is formed by focusing on the essence of Ganesh (Ganapathi) as the obstacle remover, and the bringer of prosperity, affluence and success! Whilst in the visualization part of this sadhana as you are chanting the mantra "Om Gum Ganapatayei Namaha," The Creative Visualization acts as your intention, whilst in Phase 2.your intention is there along with your mantra as a thought of the result you wish to achieve! 2) Why do we start with the Ganesha (Ganapathi) mantra – `'Om Gum Ganapatayei Namaha.'' ? Because all Tantric and spiritual worship in the Hindu tradition begins with an invocation of Ganesha to ensure success!) Allison, Please email me directly at:- avrilsmith for instructions on the technique of effortless meditation, and I can also send you wav.files (audio files) of the three mantras involved in this Sadhana. Guest guest
Dearest Allison Thank you for that lovely short excerpt from Kahlil Gibran With regards to your questions : You have all the Devis there with you : Ganesha, Saraswati, Durga, Kali and Parvati. They are all DEVI and DEVI is the Goddess of Fertility. What is it about Parvati that dosent seem right to you? You care to tell us here or if not you can email me privately. I can understand the pain. I have gone through it myself. I see several people have given you suggestions, follow their advise and choose what suits you most. A friend of mind send me Gayatri Sadhana for having a child ( I've being given the permission to spread this around if it helps ): 1. Both Husband and Wife should fast on Sundays. 2. You may take some fruits, fruit juice or milk 3. Taking a shower you could make a wish for a male or female child and then do 10 pranayama as follows : inhale deeply through both nostrils and retain the breath and mentally repeat the Gayatri Mantra with three "yain" seed-syllabus ( bijak-sara) along with "Om" as follows : Om yam yam yam bhur bhuvah svah Om Tat savitur varenyam Bhargo devasya dhimahi Dhiyo yo nah pracodayat And then exhale You should hold a rosary of sandalwood beads in your hands and mentally meditate on Gayatri as a child, wearing white clothes and holding a lotus in her hand. After the meditation, you should worship Mother Gayatri, offering cooked rice with milk and honey and both of you should partake of that prasada or the sanctified food. It contains the power of Gayatri that yields the fruit prayed for. To be honest I have never got the opportunity to try this. I went to the Annual Shri Mariamman Adipuram Festival, and there is this lady who was in trance. She called me to her; asked me several questions ( one of the question goes like " If I give you a child what would you do?"), then took several Tulasi leaves and put it in my mouth. Personally I believe its all within you. We can tell you a lot of suggestions, but to carry a child ( life ) in our body is a very sacred and joyful moment. I personally believe it is a spiritual journey. You go through a lot during pregnancy. First we must prepare our body. The food that you eat and the activities you are involved in. Some woman can conceived easily even though they are very active in sports and such. But be reminded that each body is different it. Avoid acidic food especially pineapple. Drink plenty of water as water is the source of life itself. Lastly, FAITH in DEVI is the most important. Never, never lost faith in HER. Sometimes SHE test us to see how sincere and honest we are in our desire to have a child. A child is a gift from DEVI and we must deserve this gift. But dosen't mean if you do not have a child, it makes you an undeserving one. I know of several couple who have been childless for years, they eventually decided to adopt a child, a year later the wife conceived. Another couple decided to serve themselves with the children home selflessly and they got their gift. Then again another question : how do you treat the other adopted child when you have your own? Guest guest
Hi, *IF* you have any interest/belief you may try mantras like Santana Gopala mantra or mantra of Kartikeya/Nageshvara or any other relevant mantras. They need proper initiation which can be obtained from any guru. If you are in US you may try RajaRajeshwari peetham in NY state or else hindu temple priests anywhere should be able to direct you to some teachers. I think approaching RajaRajeshwari peetham(if in US) in person is better than taking instructions from unauthentic/unverified mantra-meditation techniques on internet. best of luck , "Allison H" <allison_hancock@h...> wrote: > I have a question for those of you who care to respond. > > Which form of Devi would you ask for blessings of fertility? Guest guest
Namaste, I am looking for a really good yoga teacher. The type of yoga that I am interested in is mainly hatha yoga. But I am also interested in yoga that strengths the mind as well. Does any one know of any good yoga teacher in the state of Illinois? Or can anybody recommend some types of yoga that are good for strengthening the mind and body? I know that in order to do spiritual practice one must have a strong body and mind. N. Guest guest
Thank you Satish for that reminder, But we have to be practical that not everybody have the advantage of access to temple. It is easy for you to say :Go here or Go there, and for those the internet is the best things that ever happen to them. Like you said, yes! it need to be verified and checked before one embarked on anything. Don't just brush others aside just because you are the advantage one. For information that piece of Gayatri Sadhana that I've posted was send to me by a friend who is a follower of Sadguru Sant Keshavadas. Guest guest
Dear Satish, I do not beleieve for a moment one needs 'initiation' to pray to gods /esses like Lord GANESHA OR mATA parvati etc. All one needs is bbhakthi and a heart overflowing with love. but practicing sri vidya is another matter; that needs formal intiation under a sree vidya Guru. similarly, to practice bija mantras , one needs the formal initiation under a guru. the same applies to practicing all the tantric rituals .Pranayama (the technique of breathing) should also be practiced under the guidance of a yoga teacher.... but , the divine mother is full of compassion and infinite mercy. anyone can pray to her with folded hands and she will melt and grant boons? which mother will not respond to the cries of her child? byw, the internet is a great resource. because of the internet only, i am fortunate to view these great pictures of the Nityas! and read so many interesting details on goddess worship! hari aum! , "Satish Arigela" <satisharigela> wrote: > Hi, > > *IF* you have any interest/belief you may try mantras like Santana > Gopala mantra or mantra of Kartikeya/Nageshvara or any other > relevant mantras. > > They need proper initiation which can be obtained from any guru. > > If you are in US you may try RajaRajeshwari peetham in NY state > or else hindu temple priests anywhere should be able to direct you > to some teachers. They're the most balanced (as far as I can tell). Depending on your physical needs and temperament, you may benefit from Viniyoga (Gary Kraftsov - he's in Hawaii, but I'm sure there are students of his teaching in your land), or Ashtanga Yoga... The best advice - try a few classes of each and decide for yourself which works best for you (and with which teacher). > I know that in order to do spiritual practice one must have a > strong body and mind. Guest guest
Thank you all, so much, for your responses. I feel better about this whole process already! I didn't give all the details in my first post. I've been diagnosed with Poly Cystic Ovarian Syndrome which causes insulin resistance and most of the time infertility is a side effect. I've now been on medication for almost 6 months to correct this problem. My doctor seems to think that this is the perfect time to try to conceive and had put me on Clomid, a very mild and non- invasive fertility drug. This will be the only fertility treatment that we'll be able to afford so if this doesn't work we'll be back to square one. Besides, I just don't think I could go through with invitro, even if we could afford it... There were a lot of questions asked of me, I'll try to respond to all of them. As for why Parvati did not feel right to me, I think that her energy is much more subtle than many other Devi. Saraswati was the first I was drawn to, I am an artist and a creative soul, and she really appealed to me. Then, and it was a slow process, I began to see what Durga and Kali were all about. I feel the closest to Ganesha, he is what pulled me into studying Eastern religion. I've seen him in dreams, I feel like I know him now. My husband was immediately drawn to Ganesha, as a writer and a lover of women, he had such difficulty feeling akin to any male form of diety. He is gentle and all of his close friends have always been women. He has learned about Shiva through Ganesha, but he would have not turned to Shiva originally. We were both pagan when we met, I started us both on the Eastern kick and we have educated a lot of members in our pagan community on Hindu and Buddhist beliefs as well. Last night I set up an altar by our bed. We actually made the stained glass top together in our first year of marriage, when we first started trying to concieve. I included all of my Devi candles and a couple of our Ganesha candles and some statuary, and several items from other pantheons that I studied before. As for the relaxation question... I've been trying to relax. It's difficult sometimes. I went to a women's retreat last month with a group of women I adore. Several of the Crones in the community did a fertility ritual for me and a close friend of mine, also trying to conceive. After that ritual, I relaxed a lot, deciding that I would leave it to fate. If I cannot have a child of my body, I would be perfectly happy adopting. I just would really like to see a baby with my husband's green eyes or maybe his smile... I want to breast feed and give birth and all that stuff... I know I could love an adopted child just as much, but I can't go that road until I've tried all I can try to do it naturally. I've known my whole life that being a mommy was my calling, I just never thought it would be such a tough road to get there. It will make me appreciate it all the more when it happens. Thank you all for your advice and well wishes. I'd find you all and hug you if I could! Guest guest
Namaste Vilasini, I cannot agree more. If you read my initial mail that is exactly what I am saying. But prayer is slow(for normal ppl), mantra japa is quick . Guest guest
Dearest Allison, You state.... "I've been diagnosed with Poly Cystic Ovarian Syndrome which causes insulin resistance and most of the time infertility is a side effect. I've now been on medication for almost 6 months to correct this problem. My doctor seems to think that this is the perfect time to try to conceive and had put me on Clomid, a very mild and non-> invasive fertility drug. " You seem to be in good hands ! Medical science is so advanced these days that 'miracles' do happen. By the grace of god/ess , you may be able to conceive very soon. Let us not give up hope and be optimistic. You also write ... "As for why Parvati did not feel right to me, I think that her energy is much more subtle than many other Devi. Saraswati was the first I was drawn to, I am an artist and a creative soul, and she really appealed to me. Then, and it was a slow process, I began to see what Durga and Kali were all about." Yes! Most artists are drawn towards Saraswati, the Goddess of learning. It is but natural. The divine Mother is 'glorious' in all her divine manifestations (be it Parvati, durga , kali etc) and appeals to different devotees in different ways depending on their own temperamnt and preferences. You go on to write... " I feel the closest to Ganesha, he is what pulled me into studying Eastern religion. I've seen him in dreams, I feel like I know him now. My husband was immediately drawn to Ganesha, as a writer and a lover of women, he had such difficulty feeling akin to any male form of diety. " yes! indeed! Lord Ganesha has universal appeal and is in fact adored by men, women and children. Children are attracted by his 'pot belly ' and elephant head and large ears. Women feel 'motherly' towards him and want to take care of him - the vatsalya bhava! and in any case, in hindu religion, before beginning any major 'yagya' or riuual, one always prays to Lord Ganesha to remove obstacles ! Looks like, You have made the right choice! In any case , the way to a mother's heart is through the child! and since Lord ganesha is the child of shiva and shakti , in essence, you are praying to the parents as well! smiles!!!! You say... If I cannot have a child of my body, I would be perfectly happy adopting. I just would really like to see a baby with my husband's green eyes or maybe his smile..." ADoption is a very noble idea and believe me there are many babies waiting to be adopted by 'loving and caring' parents.... I like to share this poem with you... 'Legacy of an Adopted Child Once there were two women who never knew each other.. One you do not remember, the other you call mother. Two different lives, shaped to make Your one... One became your guiding star, the other became your sun. The first gave you life and the second taught you to live it. The first gave you a need for love, and the second was there to give it. One gave you a nationality, the other gave you a name. One gave you a seed of talent, the other gave you an aim. One gave you emotions, the other calmed your fears. One saw your first sweet smile, the other dried your tears. One gave you up ... that's all she could do. The other prayed for a child and God led her straight to you. And now you ask me, through your fears, the age old question unanswered throughout the years... Heredity or environment .. Which are you the product of.. Neither, my darling .. neither.. just two different kinds of love. Guest guest
Dear Allison: I wanted to offer some thoughts I have had after reading your posts, and many of those who have posted in answer. I have heard that sometimes when people let go of their attachment to the outcome, movement can occur. Maybe calling on the Ardhareshwari is warranted because that figure represents the whole being that each human being is or contains. It may be that there is a need to balance the whole self rather than to focus so intensely on only this one part. I empathize with wanting something so much and not having it happen. I wish you good luck in your endeavors, and I also wish you joy in being no matter what the outcome. What a beautiful post!!! I understand perfectly what you mean about Kali & Ganesh. Because my father's from Calcutta, our clan Deity is Kali. I wasn't very much into Her at first, being raised in the UK, but for the past couple of years, let's just say I've heard Her calling & I cannot resist (my Super MOM!!!). Ganesh has always been my personal favorite. Though he doesn't always smooth my path, in retrospect, I realize it was for my own good. My grandma swears that the reason she was so fertile (6 boys 4 girls), was because every morning, she'd pour milk on a black stone Shiva lingam, collect the milk & drink it. At the risk of sounding irreverent, I have my doubts about its efficacy... I personally believe she (& my grandpa) was just naturally fertile, though her devotion no doubt helped . Still, its what she recommends w/o fail to any she meets who have the same problem (she still does it, actually...), regardless of their religion, hehe. I'd like to share w/you a mantra I learned when I went to the Ramakrishna Maath a couple of years back. This prayer has helped me a lot & though it doesn't come w/a money back guarantee (sorry), I'm confident it'll help you too, if not w/a child, then in other areas. oM kaalee kaalee mahaakalee kalike paapahaariNee dharmarthakaamamokshade devi naaraayaaNi namo'stute (the original mantra, I later found out, does not include "kaama", but this is how it was taught to me. It means...) oM Kali, Kali, Great Kali, beloved Kali, Remover of confusion/sin grant us honor/virtue/goodness, wealth, love & liberation, Goddess female Deity, salutations love, light, peace & joy Shahan
