Serenity Prayer

I've been contemplating the famous "Serenity Prayer," in use by millions

of Twelve-Step groups.

<Dear God (or Higher Power)--

Grant me the Serenity to accept the things I cannot change,

...the Courage to change the things that I can,

...and the Wisdom to know the difference.>

Don't these three gifts of God sound suspiciously like the Three Shaktis

of Hindu tradition?

The Serenity of Lakshmi Devi (the Power to Maintain)

The Courage of Durga Devi (the Power to Transform)

The Wisdom of Sarasvati Devi (the Power to Create)

Indeed, couldn't "Higher Power" be translated into Sanskrit as

<ParaShakti>?

<Om Parashaktye namaha>

A really interesting observation, Kalipadma. It sounds to me like

you're on the right track. I'd only note that ParaShakti means

Highest Power or Supreme Power, not merely Higher Power. But this is

just semantic nitpicking; I do not think it affects the validity of

your analysis in the least. Thank you ...
