Guest guest
I know nothing about Hinglaj. But I'm interested in learning more about Varahi Mata. I know she's one of the Sapta Matrikas, and plays a role in the Sri Vidya cult (along with Kurukulla, who I only know as a Tibetan Bodhisattva!). I've been looking for a devotional photo of Sri Varahi -- Miss Piggy in a sari just won't do... -- Len/ Kalipadma On Fri, 20 Jun 2003 06:24:51 -0700 (PDT) Devi bhakta <devi_bhakta writes: > Received the following from a new member: > > > > Thanks for being enrolled as Member of your website. > > It is > > indeed a very informative site and I enjoyed going > > through it. > > > > I would like to know ,from you about Hinglaj. Guest guest
Dear Len There are about 180 references to Varahi Devi and Vajra Varahi in different websites. You will be able to get these if you go to search for Varahi under . Some of these sites are indeed very information including sites pertaining to tibetan society and culture. Guest guest
Kalipadma remarked : "I've been looking for a devotional photo of Sri Varahi. Miss Piggy in a sari just won't do..." Thank you satish for the picture. For a moment I though I will be seeing the "devotional" photo of Sri Varahi, which if I interprets Kalipadma message correctly as Sri Varahi not in her boar shape. Is there such picture?
Guest guest
I've seen <thankas> of the Tibetan Buddhist Vajra-Varahi. She looks like a typical dakini/ wrathful (human) goddess, with a small boar's head coming out of her hair on the side. The Hindu Sri Varahi is more traditionally potrayed as a human female with a boar's head (as Ganesha is portrayed as a human male with an elephant's head). I can't download Satish's picture. What did he send? -- Len/ Kalipadma On Sun, 22 Jun 2003 13:54:30 -0000 "Nora" <ashwini_puralasamy writes: > Kalipadma remarked : "I've been looking for a devotional photo of > Sri > Varahi. Guest guest
"I can't download Satish's picture. What did he send?" It is the same picture as I have in the homepage, except that this picture, Sri Varahi Devi is sitting on the Lotus.
Guest guest
Wow, definitely not Miss Piggy in a Sari, although I enjoyed the mental picture that that brought up! LOL. However, I don't see a similar picture on our home page. Am I missing something? prainbow , "Nora" <ashwini_puralasamy> wrote: > "I can't download Satish's picture. Guest guest
I looked on the web for pictures, including of the Buddhist ones, and I came across this interview with Miranda Shaw, who wrote Passionate Enlightenment - Women in Tantric Buddhism. I have mentioned that book on this list before, so I thought I'd share this link if anyone is interested. The article is called Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About Tantra But Were Afraid to Ask. Here's the link: http://www.martinj.dircon.co.uk/page10.html , kalipadma@j... wrote: > > I've seen <thankas> of the Tibetan Buddhist Vajra-Varahi.
