My mother used to say that in my first few months of birth, I would cry, and then suddenly stop, as if being comforted, even though nobody was in the room. Although my parents were Jewish, I was a tiny "preemie," and the doctors advised not to circumscise me until I was several months old. After the <bris> (ritual circumscision) my crying continued until Mom or Dad paid attention. Religious studies in High School revealed the apochryphal story of Lilith, Adam's first wife. The <bris> ceremony was (among other purposes) to consecrate a Jewish boy-child to Yahweh, and drive away the influence of Lilith. Of course, I was always interested in myth, and goddesses... When I joined a coven of Witches, I explined that Yahweh had left His mark, but that the Goddess had gotten to me first! In early public school, teachers and parents found me drawing pictures of "Mister and Missis God" -- He with many eyes, and Her with many hands. Even in those early years, before any exposure to Hinduism (in THIS incarnation!)
