Guest guest
I was wondering if many of you would have physical manifestations for the natural characteristics of the magic functions (Fire, Earth, Wind and Water) and how would they be displayed or arranged at their designated places. Chinese Astrology, for example, claims that the opposite manifestations of reality are the Earthly and Heavenly energies. One could set this as the standard location of Earth and Air, placing whatever you use to portrait those in the perimeters of your architectural conjunction. Also, Yamaka Patihariya, the "Twin Miracle" performed by the Buddha in a fit of showmanship, when he exhaled Fire from his groins and sprouted water from his torso. One could say, hey, the perfect elemental disposition is this: Earth, as the base, Fire, Water, and then Air. But, at a closer inspection, you would realize the essence of those things, examining them carefully. If Earth and Air are opposites, the same can be said of Water and Fire. Water's nature is one of containment; humility that is shown on the way it adapts to the vessel that is surrounding it and it's instinct to sink to the lowest levels. Fire, on the other hand, is all expansion, a cruel drive to consumption. And it's upwards motion. So, getting back at Buddha, he wasn't at a normal state when he performed the twin miracle, he was well on his way of bending the laws of nature, turning the Cosmos asunder for the sake of his message. He performed the miracle that only the Buddha could, but the message is the same for all bodhisattva wanabees: the magical act is equivalent to like the rotation of a torus, relocating the places that the elementals have in the manifestation of reality - turning this: Earth Water Fire Air, into this: Air Fire Water Earth. You may ask me, soo, what is the point? I say, use the first arrangement when they are just standing there, when you do your work, rearrange then internally and externally, into the second disposition. Guest guest
In the Hindu system of elements, there are FIVE constituents. AKASHA, or Space, is the "purest" element, and the mode for carrying sound. VAYU, or Air, is next puest (having some Akashic influences), and is the mode for the sense of touch. AGNI, or Fire, is less subtle (containing Akasha and Vayu), and is the mode for vision. JALA, or Water, is influenced by the other three, and carries the sense of taste. PRITHIVI, or Earth, is heaviest (containing all the above), and carries the sense of smell. In Western traditions, there are three arrangements of the four elements which incorporate every conceivable pair of polarities. 1. Ceremonial Magick -- Air (East, thought) is opposite Water (West, emotions). And Fire (South, action) is opposite Earth (North, the body). 2. In Alchemy -- Air (the Wand, sylphs) is opposite Earth (the Pentacle, gnomes). Combined, they bless the Cakes. And Fire (the Athame, salamanders) is opposite Water (the Cup, undines). Combined, they bless the Wine. 3. In Astrology -- Air signs are opposite Fire Signs. Incense and Fire are combined to produce charging smoke. And Water signs are opposite Earth signs. Water and Salt are combined to produce cleansing brine. Hinduism talks about EIGHT directions (quarters and cross-quarters), but the symbolism is derived from Ceremonial Magick. In the East sits INDRA, Lord of Storms and King of the Devas. (AIR) In the West sits VARUNA, Lord of the Sea, and once King of the Asuras. (WATER) In the South sits YAMA, Lord of the Ancestors and King of the Dead. (FIRE) In the North sits KUBERA, Lord of Fertility and King of the Yakshas. (EARTH) In the South-east sits Agni, the devouring Flame. In the North-west sits Vayu, the ever-moving Wind. In the North-east sits Ishana/ Soma, the power of inebriation. In the South-west sits Nirriti, the power of chaos. More later, if anyone's interested. -- Len/ Kalipadma On Sun, 20 Jul 2003 02:24:55 -0000 "Grand Moth Tarkin Jekyll" <aetherics writes: > I was wondering if many of you would have physical manifestations for > > the natural characteristics of the magic functions (Fire, Earth, > Wind > and Water) and how would they be displayed or arranged at their > designated places. > > Chinese Astrology, for example, claims that the opposite > manifestations of reality are the Earthly and Heavenly energies.
