[Moderator's Note:

The Kumbha Mela is a huge Hindu festival that occurs every 12 years in Allahabad

(Prayag), India, when around 50 million people gather to bathe where the sacred

waters of three holy rivers -- the Ganges (Ganga), the Yamuna and the

(invisible, or subtle) Saraswati -- in a vast purification ritual. The festival,

last held in 2001, was reputed to be "the largest gathering of humanity on

Planet Earth."

For those who may be interested, our member Srinath_Atreya has contributed a

long essay on the Mela. It exceeded our allowing posting size, so I've uploaded

it to the Group files. If you'd like to read it, click on "Files" in the left

column, then select, "Jai Sadguru Dutta.doc, About the Kumbha Mela, by Srinath."
