Guest guest
I am a devotee of Sarasvati. There is some confusion (in my mind, at least) as to what <guna> Sarasvati Devi represents. As spouse of Brahma, and the Power to Create, Sarasvati expresses Rajo Guna. But as the third form of Durga in the "Devi Mahatmyam," she is obviously Sattvic. Devi Bhakta has written about Matangi, the Ucchista Chandali (Outcaste of Leftovers), and while very creative, this form is obviously Tamasic. I think that's what I like about Sarasvati -- she encompasses all three Gunas, and yet is also beyond them. Usually this Goddess is portrayed as white-complexioned, and dressed in white (the Sattvic color). Often the bodice under her sari is red (reflecting her Rajasic component). Matangi is "shyama" (dark-complexioned, often portrayed as dark green or dark blue), and usually fressed in red. I'm curious to know if Sarasvati has a red-complexioned aspect. Many years ago I attended a Tibetan Buddhist initiation to Sarasvati (the Buddhists worship her, too!), and was surprised to find her described as "Vajra Sarasvati" and shown with a red complexion. Is there a similar aspect in Hinduism? -- Len/ Kalipadma ______________ The best thing to hit the internet in years - Juno SpeedBand! Surf the web up to FIVE TIMES FASTER!
