Guest guest
Dear Family and fellow sadhakas, I am spending a month in India with an artisan who makes stupendous statues of Gods and Goddesses. It is an amazing experience but it will take me longer than 8 months to learn the art!!! I wanted to share this with all my friends in groups especially the stunning statues. I will put it up on a web site... (if I can get to the internet cafe again, and stall off the bhaiyyas peering over my shoulder!!). If anyone is interested in any of these contact me by email and I can organise something. I have got the most amazing statues of Kali. Bhairon. Radha krisha under a Kalpavriksh (wish fulfilling tree in Brindawan) with peacocks perched on a swing... Tara devi in various postures, Buddha, Maya Devi. There is a most magical Bhairav temple here which is more than 2000 years old and the statue in the temple is 20 feet high, the artists statue made in bronze or brass is identical version but smaller ofcourse. This week he is starting on the Dasa mahavidyas for me!! I just wanted to share this with my group family!!! Kallikaputri PS Special wishes to both Devi Bhaktha and Ashwini

Guest guest
Hey, Maryann! Custom-made statues! Here's your opportunity to get an Ardhanaresvari with the Shakti on the RIGHT side, for a change. Some years ago, I found someone with contacts to Newari statue-makers. I suggested a <murthi> I had never seen, but which appealed to me. There is a tradition of portraying a half-and-half deity (ala Ardhanari...) composed of half Shiva (on the right) and half Vishnu (on the left). It's called Hari-Hara. I proposed an image of Hari-Hara's <Shakti> -- half Lakshmi (on the right) and half Kali (on the left). Upper right hand holding a lotus, upper left hand weilding the sword. Right side hair neatly plaited, left side hair uncombed and wild. Garland of flowers turning into a garland of skulls. Clingy silk garbing the right thigh, a skirt of chopped arms on the left thigh. And my contact said the Newari don't cast images of Kali, feeling she is inauspicious! But this <shilpi> (sculptor) seems to do Kalis.. Wonder if he'd do a Hari-Hara Shakti?
