Guest guest
I think I have read somewhere that Kali is the shadow of Parvati. There is some demon causing troubles, so Parvati sends her shadow to kill him and the shadow assumes the form of Kali. Could that be? Guest guest
The version I know is that Shiva teases Parvati during their honeymoon about her dark complexion. Parvati leaves in a huff, and fasts and meditates in a dark cave, hoping her penance will lighten her skin. She begins to glow from within, turning golden, and takes the name Gauri ("golden"). But her shadow on the wall (who is Kali) leaves her. Golden Gauri is a Yogini, who gets power from restraining the senses, and she rules over all tame animals and domesticated plants. Black Kali is a Bhogini, whose power derives from indulging the senses, and she rules all wild animals and uncultivated plants. Once a year, the dark complexioned hill-tribe girls (of Assam?) hold a ritual to re-unite Kali and Gauri, and invoke a two-headed golden and dark goddess, because we need both the wild and the mild in our lives. (And it's not healthy to reject your Shadow.) Many Shaktas believe that Kali dwells inside every Goddess, and every woman. She only needs to be properly invoked. -- Len/ Kalipadma Enticed is the bee of my mind/ by the black lotus feet of my Divine Mother.../ On Thu, 11 Sep 2003 17:10:44 -0700 (PDT) akka_108 <akka_108 writes: > I think I have read somewhere that Kali is the shadow of Parvati. > There is some demon causing troubles, so Parvati sends her shadow to > kill him and the shadow assumes the form of Kali.
