The Silk Road Dance Company directed by Laurel Victoria Gray is

putting on Egypta,

a revivification of ancient sacred dance. A stunning artistic

success. Egypta was splendid beyond belief. Seeing Egypta this

evening gave me the best birthday I have ever had. The work touched

my innermost heart and exalted my soul. The seamless transitions

from one episode to the next were well designed, so that the work

flowed as a unified whole.

When Nuit appeared in the Dance of the Cosmos, She was so

breathtakingly beautiful that I was shaken to the core of my being.

Tears of sacred awe and divine love rolled down my cheeks during Her

dance. Laurel and her company really brought the Goddess to life on

stage. They are making real sacred art. The dancer who portrayed

Nuit, Parastoo Ghodsi's last name appropriately comes from the

Arabic word meaning 'sacredness'.

I cried more tears to see the beloved Goddess Isis, and the dancer

who portrayed her was regally tall in Her queenly presence.

I cried again when Sekhmet came on. The dancer in her "catsuit" :)

was purrfectly divine, so feral and graceful. (During the curtain

call, she playfully turned feline again for a moment, snarling and

clawing.)

Then during the Dance of the Seven Hathors I cried a whole flood of

tears at all the magnificent swirls of beauty, knowing and feeling

that this beauty manifested the presence of the Goddess Herself. I

also cried at the end as Cleopatra died and was conveyed to the

afterlife by Anubis where Maat weighed her soul with a feather.

This was truly a Goddess lover's dream come true. Laurel has the

magic to actually bring the divine presence into our midst. You can

tell that she created this not just as a spectacle but as genuine

sacred art, as close to reviving the sacred dance of the ancient

world as we will ever see. My heart is still beating with reverence

and joy at the beauty this performance brought to life.

The feminine Shakti power within Laurel Gray is brilliant. <Palms

Goddess lovers should definitely take note of the Silk Road Dance

Company

because their artistic vision is to celebrate the Sacred Feminine

through dance. One of my formative Goddess experiences came the

first time I saw them, when they did an ancient pre-Christian

Georgian dance to thank the Moon Goddess for the birth of a

daughter. Three women back to back danced a slow, carefully

synchronized blessing of the Triple Goddess. The spiritual truth of

it went right to my heart and I wept joyful tears. That's when I

had to admit to myself I too was for the Goddess.

Since then I have had fruitful dialogues with Laurel on the Sacred

Feminine in Islam, since most of her work is based in Islamic

cultures, particularly Uzbekistan. She has worked there with

traditional dance experts and tapped into the feminine current

within Islamic culture that goes back to the ancient Goddess. Let

us support and cheer on the artists like the Silk Road Dance Company

who are paying homage to the Goddess.
