"Kusha" or Kusha grass is one of the most sacred grass used in religious ceremony. Grow in abundance in the ganges river, one of the most sacred river in India. Kusha grass therefore sometimes is considered as a purifier. According to another version of the Ramayana, Kusha grass is the hair of Goddess Sita. Kusha is the name of Sita's twin boys ( Luv and Kusha). When Sita refused to return after being humiliated, she called upon her Mother, the Earth to prove her chastity and to take her back. The Earth parted under her feet to accept The Daughter. Upon seeing his mother about to dissapper, Kusha tried to stop her but fail. He could only grap a lock of her hair. The place where the hair drops grew into Kusha grass. In Ayurveda, Kushmanda is a fruit cum vegetables have a lot of medicinal value. Used to treat digestive disorder, mercury poisoning, having cooling effect of the body, pain relief, cleansing properties of the internal organs such as urinary system, gastro instestinal system, reproductive system etc. It is also believe that eating of the fruit increases the power of the brain and as well as the ability to remember. Kusha to can mean sharp. It is the root for the Sanskrit word expert or Kosala. This is because the long leaves that grow in pairs are very sharp like the sword, it is used as a symbol of discriminating wisdom. Kushmanda reminds us to remain in touch and in control with our own innerself and yet maintain the purity. Kushmanda is the sword that cuts off the Ignorance and bondage that blocks the spiritual path. She radiates like the Sun in the solar system and shines brightly in all the ten directions for she is the giver and protector of life. And it is said that praying to Kushmanda Mata brings about the fulfillment of all desires.
