Guest guest
Although the more famous Saraswati Puja takes place in early spring, a pooja is also observed during Navaratri; and -- as the holiday reminders on the front page have been flashing -- today is that day. What should you do? Set up a statue or images of Her for worship (there are plenty in our Photo files; choose your favorite). Offer Her lots of white or light-colored flowers and fruits; white or saffron rice; things that make you think of purity. What should you pray for? Students of all ages will obviously want to pray for success in their studies; also, those of us with an artistic side -- whether we like to write or draw or paint or play a musical instrument -- will want to ask for Her blessings in these endeavors. Place the instruments of your endeavors -- textbooks, notebooks, articles, musical instruments, art tools, etc., before Her, and ask for Her to bless them and make your efforts using them fruitful. How should you pray? If you have a guru, follow her or his instructions; otherwise, simply repeat a simple Saraswati mantra, 108 times (or some multiple thereof). If you do not know one, a standard mantra is "Aum Aim Hrim Saraswatyai Namahe", which you can hear nicely recited here: http://www.palmistry.com/sara-mantra.aiff Or you might opt to explore other Saraswati mantras here: http://www.mantraonnet.com/saraswati-nonmembers.html Aum Maatangyai Namahe
