Guest guest
Hi - I was watching a television show on the public broadcasting network here in the US. It was show about something called "string theory" that has to do with the ultimate particles of matter. The big idea is that they might have found a unified theory of matter, energy, and gravity. They were discussing that for years the physicists haven't been able to bring together quantum physics on one hand (the physics of very small things) and Einsteinian/Newtonial physics (the physics of very big things). The thing about big physics is that thing go along on cause and effect. Like rockets, as the hot gas goes out the end the rocket moves forward. You treat someone badly, they react badly. You see a lot people defining karma that way, i.e., cause and effect. Now in the TV show, they took us down an imaginary elevator (lift?) that caused us to get very small. So small that we were the size of the atoms and electrons. The problem at that size is that things get mighty weird. Cause and effect don't work at this level. If you were to go to a restaurant and ordered say curried lamb, you might end up with an egg roll or a hamburger. If you stuck around long enough and kept asking for the curried lamb, you might eventually get it. It may take an eternity but it might show up. The same thing goes for electrons or protons. You can't quite tell where they are. With that said, it would seem to me that if we could get very very small we might be able to overcome karma. :-) At that level, I would assume there would be no karma or very weird karma to say the least. At very small cause and effect is out the window. Eric Otto
