Guest guest
Oct. 31, 2003 - When Narinder Badwal of San Jose, Calif., bought a Super Lotto Jackpot ticket just 90 minutes before the deadline, little did he realize that he had just invited Laxmi, the Hindu goddess of wealth, to his house this Diwali. And come she did -- with a whopping $49.5 million win (about Rs. 225 crores), representing his half of the jackpot that he shared with an aspiring actress from Southern California. Badwal's winning numbers were 6, 9, 17, 29, 32 and Mega Number 12. It was on the eve of Diwali, the Hindu festival in honor of the goddess of wealth, which was celebrated Oct. 25, that the 49-year- old San Jose resident and owner of the 7-Eleven store at 815 Bing Ave. in Santa Clara realized that he had sold the winning ticket to himself. It was, in fact, his younger brother Parminder who brought this to his attention the day before.
