Guest guest
Having lived in all four regions of the United States during the last thirty plus years, I find both the natural and the man-made valleys of this country to be equally beautiful. THIS IS THE CRUX OF THE ISSUE YOU ARE I THINK OUT OF TOUCH WITH REALITY. In contrast, the conflict over the Kashmir valley is not only destroying the valley itself but is also thwarting both nations' progress by shying away foreign investors. Both countries direly need such foreign investment to make further progress. AGAIN YOU ARE OUT OF TOUCH WITH REALITY. INDIA DOES NOT NEED AID AND INDIA IS NOT – REPEAT- NOT DEPENDANT ON US OR ANY ONE IN THE WEST. OF COURSE THEY ARE TRYING THEIR BEST AT ‘BENEVOLENT IMPERIALISM’ IT HAS NOT YET SUCCEEDED. Still, their leaders do have an external view that is not very pretty considering the rampant poverty, illiteracy, backwardness and intolerance in both countries. I AM HAPPY TO NOTE THAT THE AUTHOR LIVES IN A COUNTRY WITHOUT POVERTY ILLITERACY AND INTOLERENCE; THOUGH MY EXPERIENCE AND OTHERS’ INDICATE OTHERWISE. SIR, HAVE YOU CRUISED ON NEW YORK STREETS IN THE STREETS OF NY DURING WINTER NIGHTS BETWEEN 2 AM AND 5 AM? WHAT IS IT THAT THEY REMOVE IN TRUCKS? BODIES OF PEOPLE WHO DIED OF COLD AND HUNGER – NOT NECESSARILY AMERICAN AFRICANS. WHAT IS THE PERCENTAGE OF PEOPLE BEOW POVERTY LINE IN US? 25% I BELIEVE. LITTERACY IN US? I BELIEVE IS LESS THAN 50%. DID U SEE THE SPEECH OF THE AMERICAN SOLDIER (WOMAN0 WHO WAS ALLEGEDLY “RESCUED” BY SPECIAL FORCES? POOR GIRL COULD OT EVEN SPEAK GOOD ENGLISH!! SEE ALSO http://www.shashitharoor.com/articles/newsweek/illiterate.shtml Considering the enormity of the situation due to its nuclear war threat, should this Kashmir conflict be allowed to stay in abeyance? WHO CREATED IT? LOOK AT UN PAPERS SIR!! U WILL UNDERSTAND!! WHO CREATED AND NURTURED IT!! BRITAIN AND AMERICA!! LOOK AT MOST OF THE CONFLICTS ITS INITIATED BY THE WEST WITH COMMERCIAL INTERESTS IN MIND. I REMEMBER AN AFRICAN PRESIDENT OF AN ABJECTLY POOR COUNTRY SAYING THAT I AM SITTING ON 10% OF THE WORLD NICKEL DEPOSITS BUT I CANNOT DO ANYTHING. I START MINING AND THE WEST WILL START A CIVIL WAR. THEY KNEW PAKISTAN WAS GOING NUCLEAR. THEY KEPT QUIET FOR POLITICAL REASONS TO BALANCE AND DESTABILISE INDIA. In the first scenario, India and Pakistan must work out a new border understanding with America as the arbiter. Since the older, region specific strategies have changed drastically, I believe both India and Pakistan can be convinced of a fair arbitration by America to reach a lasting Kashmir agreement in clear view of the river waters as much as the juicy aid-plums that are the hallmark of America's foreign policy. One can envision joint patrolling and monitoring of Line of Control (LoC) between the two countries by Pakistani, Indian and American Forces. AMERICA AS ARBITRATOR!! C’MON!! ARE U AWARE WHAT HAPPENED IN 60S WHEN WE LET BRITISH ARBITRATE THE KUTCH ISSUE? EVER HEAR OF THE MONKET WHO ARBITRATED ON WHO WHOULD HAVE WHAT SHARE OF BREAD? ARE U AWARE OF THE GENESIS OF THE KASHMIR CONFLICT? ARE U AWARE OF THE MINDSET OF PAKISTAN? WHICH IS THE NATION THAT’S THE WORST HUMAN RIGHTS VIOLATOR IN THE WORLD. ITS US OF A. WHO COMMITTED MORE WAR CRIMES THAN ANY OTHER COUNTRY AND BELIEVES MIGHT IS RIGHT? US OF A!! My challenge and purpose for writing this piece is in the articulation of the next two scenarios. These second and third options could put either country under great stress but they also have a windfall in store for the nation that shows the needful courage. Either India or Pakistan may choose to give up the entire Kashmir region to the other country in return for substantial aid from America to build its Silicon/Tennessee style dream-valleys to offset the loss of the Kashmir valley. WE DO NOT NEED AMERICAN AID PLEASE. IT’S WORSE THAN A POX EPIDEMIC. IT VSEEMS YOU ARE NOT AWARE OF THE REALITY THAT IS INDIA. It does not take a rocket scientist to figure out that whichever country chooses to give up the Kashmir valley could very easily end up on the fast track to progress. In the case of India, it should expect to lift its more than 500-million poor from their sufferings as a result. For Pakistan, the progress should dry up the cesspool of Muslim militancy that its President Pervez Musharraf rightly observed to have "undermined Islam to a level that people of the world associate it with illiteracy, backwardness, and intolerance." INDIA DOES NOT NEED US AID FOR ANYTHING. IN FACT THIS WILL GIVE THE US OF A HANDLE TO DESTROY OUR INDUSTRIES!! THEY ARE ALREADY AFRAID OF OUR SOFTWARE PROWESS. THEY ARE AFRAID WE WILL OVERTAKE THEM. WE ARE LIFTING OUR POOR OUT OF POVERTY ON OUR OWN. WE DO NOT NEED WESTERN ADVICE. REMEMBER WHAT HAPPENED AFTER THE ASIAN TIGER COLLAPSE? MALAYSIA WAS ADVISED TO FOLLOW CERTAIN PATTERN. THE PRESIDENT OF MALAYSIA SAID DO EXACTLY THE OPPOSITE OF THE ADVICE. AND THEY GOT OUT. HAD THEY FOLLOWED THE WESTERN ADVICE THEY WOULD HAVE BEEN DESTROYED FURTHER. SO MUCH FOR THE AID AND ADVICE!! WE CAN DO WITHOUT THAT!! If we were to use the yardstick of political and religious sentiments, one may find India to be the country with a demeanor more prone to detaching itself from Kashmir than Pakistan. This is so because the guiding philosophy for most Indians - the Bhagavad Gita, delves at length into detachment as a way to Nirvana. But I have a funny feeling that given the choice of a Silicon/Tennessee Valley-like substitution, both India and Pakistan may opt to give up the Kashmir Valley - a political situation that one could never imagine considering the hatred filled histories of these two countries. FORGET THIS BOSS!! Recently some American official WAS SUGGESTING PALESTINIANS FOLLOW GANDHI. DID US FOLLOW GANDHI ANYWHERE? NO IT’S A WEAPON TO DECIEVE AND SHOWS THE FEELING OF MANY AMERICANS THAT OTHERS WHO WERE LIVING IN PALACES AND STUDYING AND EXPOUNDING ON ABSTRACT SCIENCES WHEN THEIR FOREBEARS WERE RUNNING AROUND IN BEAR SKINS AND LIVING ATOP TREES AND IN CAVES ARE FOOLS. Now, that can pose another funny situation: if not Pakistan or India, which country would take hold of the entire Kashmir valley? I don't believe China or America would have much interest - perhaps we could make Palestine out of it and solve that burning issue at the same time. Hopefully, PLO will embrace it with additional American-aid and I am sure Israel will pitch in if need be. YES THAT’S WHAT THEY WANT. TAKE OVER KASHMIR!! AMERICA DOES HAVE AN INTEREST. BELIEVE ME I KNOW. YES THAT’S WHAT AMERICANS WANT. A PALESTINE IN KASHMIR!! EVER BOILING TO BLEED INDIA. As a super-power, America has a unique position and the important role of peacemaker. Only its "aid-carrot" is needed to do the initial trick for the "big-stick" is well in sight of the entire world, to see and admire (and fear as well!). YOU ARE OUT OF TOUCH!! SIR!! INDIA NEEDS NO “AID CARROT”. PROBABLY YOU LEFT INDIA WHEN IT WAS JUST RECOVERING FROM THE COLONISATION OF PARTS OF INDIA. YOU ARE SADLY OUT OF TOUCH!! FORGET THE STICK TOO. THEY SENT THE 7TH FLEET TO BAY OF BENGAL TO RESCUE 93,000 RAPISTS AND MUDERERS IN 1971. THEY TURNED BACK BECAUSE WE FORCED THEN TO. SO EVEN A NON-NUCLEAR INDIA CAN STAND UP TO THEM. LET THEM TRY IT WITH A NUCLEAR INDIA. WE WILL SEE. Guest guest
Dear Dave Anand and Kochu: Thank you for providing both arguments on both sides of this issue. Let the thread end here. Indian-Pakistan politics -- and politics in general -- are not the purpose of this particular forum. Our effort here is to create a kind of "virtual mandir" in which people can gather to praise and celebrate Devi. Certainly, Shaktism embraces the world, and Shaktas do not turn away from the discussing the social and political factors affecting the world. However, when the tone and pitch are such that the primary purpose of the forum become obscured, it's time to return to our primary raison d'etre. Therefore, no further posts on this thread will be entertained. DB
