Bringing the Goddess to Miami

Namaste,

Just wanted to mention that I'm making arrangements to go to Miami

next week for the protests against the FTAA. This is important to me

and I'm a little nervous as I've not been in a large international

protest before, but I'm following my heart and just trying to work

things out as I go along.

If Devi wants me there, I'll be there.

I'm hoping to be hooked up with the so called Pagan Cluster. They're

actions tend to be based on Pagan rituals and drawing magic into

their message. It's very Goddess oriented and the stuff that they've

done has been so moving.

Faith in action, that's what I'm trying to dance.

So anyway, I've got things worked out for work, pets and home and I'm

still working on the transportation/caravan/carpool issues and

housing. It's been impossible to make a housing commitment as I don't

have my arrival departure worked out and so many people are going.

Since I don't have experience working with this group before, and I

do have Red Cross first aid and cpr training, I went ahead and

furthered that background by getting a briefing on civil disturbance

medicine (tear gas, pepper spray, rubber bullets..etc). That way, no

matter where I show up I can help out. If it doesn't look like I can

get into the protest itself because I lack experience or contacts

whatever, I will still be useful.

If you're curious here's some links about this:

http://www.peoplesconsultation.org/index.html

www.unitedforpeace.org

www.stopftaa.org

www.citizen.org/trade/ftaa

I know this seems very political, but for me it's spiritual.

And challenging.

Anyway, this is the spiritual challenge that I'm working on, so I

wanted to share it here. Also, I wonder if there is a reference point

between Hinduism and political activism that I could know about,

especially based in Devi, that I could carry with me.

Blessings,

Hello prainbow:

Are you seeking Hindu scriptural references? If so, I am unable

to help. But if you are seeking anything that unites political with

spiritual, I have also been looking for such links.

I think the Ammachi quote I posted is about political and spiritual

re "external world" and "internal world." That is my interpretation,

anyway, along with pondering what all it may mean, and factoring

others' interpretations into the mix.

See also Kochu's message number 7574 posted October 16,

2003 re mending fences AND praying that the horses don't get

out, and the related posts.

And certainly Gandhi's life was both political and spiritual.

Good luck to you on your protest venture.

Regards,

Mary Ann

Namaste Mary Ann!

Actually, I *am* seeking the comfort of scriptural discussion with

people who share my love of the Goddess, that I might carry that

comfort, find courage in those thoughts as I face potential

difficulties.

I think I'll bring one of my Goddess books with me on the road, so I

can read it when I am not the driver. It's a 35 hour trip from

Colorado so I'll have some time.

She is everything. She is all that I am. She is everything around me.

Blessings,

Hi again, prainbow: I look forward, with you, to posts from

people who know scriptural references that apply.

I trust that if Her energy is what you seek, She will find you :)

Namaste

A friend of mine uses this as an email sign off:

She is a Tree of Life to all who cling to Her

Infinite Joy, Wisdom and Grace.

Nothing you desire can compare to Her

All Her paths are the Struggle towards Peace.

I'm not sure where it's from, but it reminds me of Devi.

Namaste:

That's beautiful. It brings to mind a few different things I have

heard that I'd like to share with you (and the group). I hope you

find these relavent to your journey to, and work in, Florida. If not, I

still love them and want to share :) I will check out the links you

posted so I can learn more about what you'll be doing on your

trip.

1) Gurumayi from her book Enthusiasm:

"If you must struggle, then wrestle with your self-hatred so that

you release its hold on you. ... If you must struggle, then use that

energy to embrace Devi's creation. ... If you must struggle, then

turn your effort to releasing the enthusiasm within yourself, to

serving Devi with joy and wholeness." (She says "God" but I've

written "Devi.")

2) Mary Parker Follett also comes to mind. Though not

traditionally thought of as a spiritual influence, I understand her

work to be profoundly spiritual, as well as political. Your "tree"

reference made me think of her. Here are several passages I

found online from an article entitled "Liquid Leadership" by

someone named Albie Davis (if I'm remembering correctly):

"Individuality is the capacity for union. Evil is non-relation. The

source of our strength is the central supply. You may as well

break a branch off the tree and expect it to live. Non-relation is

death."

"We could not have an enemy unless there was much in

common between us. Differences are always grounded in an

underlying similarity. ... I always feel intimate with my enemies. It

is not opposition but indifference which separates [humans]."

"A friendship based on likenesses and agreements alone is a

superficial matter enough. The deep and lasting friendship is

one capable of recognizing and dealing with all the fundamental

differences that must exist between any two individuals, one

capable therefore of such an enrighment of our personalities

that together we shall mount to new heights of understanding

and endeavor."

Mary Parker Follett (1868 - 1933)

3) Message 7708 "From War to Peace" is a quote by Follett

worth reading if you missed it the first time.

Regards,

Mary Ann

Namaste',

I do hope prainbow is all right.

I understand that on Saturday, Nov 15, five activists [including members of the

Pagan Cluster] were arrested in Miami for the crime of

leafletting, that is, peaceful organizing for the upcoming anti-FTAA

mobilization.

If you are so moved, you may register a complaint about this treatment of the

protesters:
