Hello Sir,

You wanted to know about Goddess Sati and Goddess Parvathi.

Lord Vishnu and Lord Brahma wanted Lord Shiva to get married and

They requested Goddess Uma to be born as the daughter of Daksha Prajapathi, the

son of Brahma. Goddess Uma was born as Goddess Sati, the daughter of Daksha

hence the Goddess is also known as Dakshayani. Goddess Sati won over Lord Shiva

and married Him much against the wishes of Her father, Daksha. Daksha disliked

Shiva very much. Once, Daksha decided to perform a grand yagna and invited all

the deziens of the worlds except Goddess Sati and Lord Shiva. Goddess Sati heard

of it and with love on Her family, wanted to attend the Yagna but Lord Shiva did

not want to. But He could not refuse Goddess Sati attending the Yagna. Goddess

Sati went to the Yagna where Daksha insulted Lord Shiva, and Goddess Sati for

marrying Him. Unable to bear the insult of Her Husband, Goddess Sati took a Vow

that She will again be reborn to a father whom She can respect and who will

respect Her wishes and Her Family and then be

united again with Lord Shiva and Goddess Sati jumped into the Yagna fire. (Some

say she created fire out of Her Yogic power and immolated Herself). Lord Shiva

got enraged and created Lord Veerabhadhra from His matted Hair Locks and sent

Him to destroy the Yagna of Daksha. Lord Veerabhadhra did so and also beheaded

the head of Daksha and threw it into the sacrificial fire. Lord Vishnu and Lord

Brahma pacified Lord Shiva, who gave the head of a goat to Daksha and made him

alive. Daksha begged for Lord Shiva's forgiveness and completed the Yagna under

His guidance. You asked if Goddess Sati had any sisters. Yes, Goddess Sati had

many sisters. 27 of Goddess Sati's sisters are the Stars of the constellation

whom INDIANS take into account as the birth stars. They are married to the Moon

or Chandra. Another 13 of Goddess Sati's sisters were married to Kashyapa

Prajapathi. One of them is Aditi, the mother of Lord Indra, Lord Surya and other

Gods and also Lord Vamana, the incarnation of Lord

Vishnu. Another one is Diti who is the mother of all Daityas and Rakshasas, and

also the famous Hiranyakasha and Hiranyakashipu. Another of them is Vinata, who

is the mother of Garuda. Another of them is kadru the mother of all Snakes. Thus

each of the 13 daughters of Daksha (Wives of Kashyapa and also Goddess Sati's

sisters) populated the Earth.

Goddess Sati, true to Her word was reborn as Goddess

Parvathi, to Himavan, the mountain king and Mena, the heavenly nymph. She loved

Shiva from Her childhood. Himavan took Her to serve Lord Shiva. There was a

Rakshasa named Tarakasura who obtained boons from Lord Brahma that he should

only die at the hands of the son of Shiva. He thought since Lord Shiva was doing

penance after the death of Goddess Sati and became an ascetic. Indra and other

Gods asked Kama, the God of Love to shoot his arrows on Lord Shiva when Goddess

Parvathi was near Him. Kama did so only to be burnt by the anger of Lord Shiva,

who opened His third Eye. Rati, the Wife of Kama obtained a boon that from now

only She could see Him. Goddess Parvathi, who in Her grief of not able to win

over Lord Shiva with Her beauty, now did great and severe penance and won over

Lord Shiva and got married to Him, never to get seperated from Him again. Lord

Ganesha is the son of Parvathi and so is Lord

Kumara Swamy or Karthikeya who killed Tarakasura and His evil asura/rakshasa

brothers. I do not know if Goddess Parvathi has any sisters. But I remember

reading somewhere that Parvathi had a brother, a Mountain, whose was a flying

one, whose wings were cut of by Indra. Correct me if i am wrong, anyone.

I hope you liked this article I have given you, Sir.

Please correct me if I am wrong. Please do reply to me about this. I will be

waiting for your reply. All The Best, Take Care. Bye.

Sandeep.

I like to know more about (the mythologies of) Sati and Parvati.

Sati's father was Daksha, who was the father of Parvati?

Who were the mothers of Sati and Parvati?

Are there any sisters, childhood friends or female servants of Sati whose names

are mentioned in the scriptures?

What about Parvati's sisters, childhood friends and female servants?

When Sati married Shiva, was she accompanied by one of her sisters or by female

servants from her maternal family?

What about Parvati?
