Guest guest
Hi all - A friend found an 8" linga stone from one of his Indian jobbers here in the US. He knows I collect rocks and stones. I know that the stone is a sacred one but I am not sure what ones needs to do to handle it correctly and respectfully. He also said to use it in a fountain setting. Any help appreciated on this. Thanks. Eric Otto Cincinnati, Ohio USA
Guest guest
Dear Eric, If you can afford to build a yoni(base where the linga rests) that would be ideal for the linga(i believe someone on this list does this for a price). You can do a simple abhisekham with water, incense and flowers particularly on pradosham days/Mondays. If you want to do any detailed pooja, then please refer to Satyananda Saraswati's Siva Pooja and Advanced Yajna(from amazon)-this is a good book for those that dont have a teacher around. Please also place the linga at a sacred place like an altar. Of course Bholanath, does not care much for externals as he does for the correct internal attitude. The great Trailinga Swami of Benares used to do abhisekham on the Kasi Viswanath Linga with his faeces and urine- now I would not recommend that :-) Respect and adoration for the linga,as the linga like the Sri yantra is an emblem where all the deities of the cosmos are present. Quite honestly I do not know about the fountain part- some temples have a pot placed above the linga, where water drips down continuously on the linga, Aum Namasivaya yogaman , "Eric Otto" <mkultra@f...> wrote: > Hi all - > > A friend found an 8" linga stone from one of his Indian jobbers here in the US. Guest guest
I set my linga stone on end, on an "O" ring, in a small bowl on my altar. On Mondays (sacred to Shiva) I pour a cup of water over the stone, visualizing Mother Ganga descending into Lord Shiva's hair. I'll sing: Jai, jai Ganga Ma/ Jai, jai Shankara/ Jai, jai Ganga Ma/ Jai, jai Shankara/ Bom! Bhola Mahadeva Shankara/ Ma-a-aaa-a!/ I'll also wave incense around the linga, or put a flower blossom on top of it. -- Len/ Black Lotus On Sun, 14 Dec 2003 15:21:14 -0000 "Eric Otto" <mkultra writes: > Hi all - > > A friend found an 8" linga stone from one of his Indian jobbers here > in the US.
