Guest guest
A few posts back, I mentioned that we need to expose both positive and negative aspects of haktism to scrutiny. We've discussed human sacrifice before; I think the concensus is that it has no place in true Shaktism. But unfortunately, today's issue of "New Kerala" contained this report: ONE KILLED, FOUR INJURED IN VIOLENCE AFTER CHILD SACRIFICE Ranchi (Dec 11) : One person was killed and four were injured in police firing after angry mobs went on the rampage Thursday to protest a child sacrifice in the eastern Indian state of Jharkhand. In the morning, hundreds of people gathered near Bhurkunda police station of Hazaribagh district, 70 km from here, to kill a priest who had sacrificed six-year-old Munna three days ago. The rampaging mob even set the police station on fire. Police retaliated and fired. Police Wednesday arrested Shashi Thakur, a priest who killed the boy Munna in the belief that it would appease goddess Kali. Two other accused who are under police custody told police that the boy was killed to propitiate the goddess. Jharkhand Police chief R.R. Prasad has confirmed the death of a person in the police firing. "The situation is tense but under control. We are taking measures to calm the situation," Prasad said.
