Guest guest
What are the basic principles of Indian astrology? I think it operates with the position the moon had when one was born, is this correct? I have also read that the horoscope determines which deities one should worship. Can someone tell me more? C. Guest guest
Jyotish differs from Western astrology in some of the following ways... o The Zodiac is Siderial, not Tropical (i.e., the signs are determined by actual constellations, not by the Solstices and Equinoxes experienced on Earth). Since the Earth wobbles on its axis, the Zodiac slowly moves backwards (about one degree every 70 years), and has to be periodically adjusted. o Vedic Astrology only uses the visible planets, and the Moon's Nodes. Uranus, Neptune, Pluto, Asteroids, etc. are ignored. o Aspects are not mathematically exact. Planets influence entire Houses, regardless of orbs. o In addition to the 12 Signs, the Zodiac is divided into 27 Lunar Mansions ("nakshatras"), which are also interpreted, especially the Moon's placement. These determine planetary cycles ("dasas") in your life. o Secondary charts ("amshas") are consulted, based on numerological re-configuration of your birth data. o There are numerous "yoga karakas" -- planetary configurations with positive or negative influences. o The planets are deities. Hence, it is possible to influence them by making offerings, chanting mantras, practicing charity, fasting, wearing gemstones, etc. o The Fifth House rules "what you love," so studying it can reveal which Hindu deity is the best to worship in regular <sadhana>. I've studied with Ronnie Gale Dryer, and had classes/ readings with K.N. Rao. Web-search for their books -- I recommend them! I also like Harish Johari's "Healing Powers of Gemstones." (The Kali Mandir <www.KaliMandir.org> is selling nine-gemstone astrologer's rings at $20 each -- an incredible bargain!) -- Len/ Kalipadma On Mon, 12 Jan 2004 16:36:42 -0800 (PST) firebreathing_dragonfly <firebreathing_dragonfly writes: > What are the basic principles of Indian astrology? > I think it operates with the position the moon had when one was > born, is this correct? > I have also read that the horoscope determines which deities one > should worship. > Can someone tell me more? > > C. > ______________ The best thing to hit the internet in years - Juno SpeedBand!
