Guest guest
I've long been interested in the Hindu cult of Smriti or Smartism. The magazine Hinduism Today lists it as the fourth mpst prominent Hindu sect, after Vaishnava, Shaiva, and Shakta. Apparently inspired by the Hindu reformer Shankaraacharya, Smartas worship at an altar with five deity images (or stones) -- Vishnu (black stone), Shiva (white stone), Devi (gold stone), Ganesha (red stone), and Surya (clear crystal). This inclusion of all the sects of Hinduism in one worship ceremony seems to parallel the Unitarians' goal of finding God in every faith. I gather, however, that Smartas do not accept converts. Anyone have more data? -- Len/ Kalipadma On Fri, 23 Jan 2004 12:12:38 -0000 "Sister Usha Devi" <sisterusha writes: > > I have visited three or four Unitarian churches and discussed > theology with the ministers.
