I live in the Western U.S. It seems to me that the show was dubbed in English, but it could have had subtitles. So I'm guessing these shows are available on American TV, but just in limited markets. This was not the (British-made?) 6-hour Peter Brooks version of the Mahabarata. I've seen that one too, and didn't much care for it. j. Not a movie version but more of drama base and they are in serial form.
Guest guest
I suspect the main problem with showing or making these types of programs for American TV is that inevitably some fundamentalist hindu sect or another would protest that the TV network got it wrong, misrepresented them, portrayed Krishna/Shiva/Kali/etc in an "offensive" way, and generally would make life way too difficult for TV producers. The problem wouldn't be christian intolerance, they're way too busy protesting every time Hollywood or American TV does anything to do with Jesus or priests or what have you. Then of course they complain at the same time when Hollywood or American TV _doesn't_ have shows about Jesus or priests. Its a hopeless catch 22, and the nature of radical fundamentalism (be it hindu, christian, muslim, or whatever). Nisarg --- msbauju <msbauju wrote: > , > MaryJWoodworth@a... wrote: > > 1. How come nobody protested them in India? Are you Indian or ever lived there? If the protests you are referring to, is if American actors acted it out under the direction of an American, you may be right. When I was in school I noticed a copy of the Mahabharata from school library in which Americans(donno if Americans -may be non indians) acted and probably directed also by an American, I was shocked when I watched the video. So were my roommates, that I have to turn it off when they are around so as not to hurt their sentiments. The actors and directors might have been non-hindu. Btw my roommates who were Indians too were not fundamentalists though, they are normal average hindu and they would not pay attention even if the present muslims in India slaughter all Hindus. Isnt that the charecterstic of normal hindu btw?

By the way, there were dozens of these on the website that Dvei Bhakta recommended. Any suggestions as to which ones are the best?
