She is called Tripura Sundari because She is the beloved of Tripura Sundara(according to kalika purana quoted in a book)i.e ParamaShiva. Guest guest
Yes there are always more definitions, depending on the source you consult, and they very often conflict in their interpretations. In the end, I think, to avoid being overwhelmed with confusion and information overload, we must adhere to the definitions and interpretations of the lineage we follow. Varying interpretations, conflicting dhyanas, differing conclusions are a fascinating topic of inquiry -- they make for great discussions and fascinating intellectual study. But for purposes of sadhana, it seems wise to choose your particular "track" -- i.e., adopt the texts and interpretations preferred by the lineage -- and concentrate on that. Trains that too often jump between tracks usually end up getting derailed -- whence they go nowhere at all, at least not very fast. This is just my impression, though. There are no conflicts when it comes meanings of the names of Devata. All are correct. One needs to read and understand all possible meanings of the name of their devata. That way more qualities of the devata and more of the devata's lilas will be known. > In the end, I think, to avoid being overwhelmed with confusion and > information overload, we must adhere to the definitions and > interpretations of the lineage we follow. These conflicts in interpretations are only for things like "How Shrichakra needs to be worshipped" and similar concepts. When it comes of that( and also dhyana and mantra) one needs to follow their lineage. No teacher will ever say this is the only meaning of the name of Devata. The student needs to learn all he can about the devata from all sources and stick to his lineage when it comes to performing rituals or any particular penance or observations. Regards Satish. All are correct. One needs to read and understand all possible meanings of the name of their devata. Warmest regards DB
