Guest guest
Dark energy sounds not unlike the "vayu" that according to Buddha is responsible for the expansion of the planetary systems (chakras) and galaxies (maha chakras) in the universe. Blow upon powder and it scatters, hence vayu. - shivaks51 Friday, March 05, 2004 9:59 AM Dark Energy >>> A manifestation of the Dark Mother ..... The fact that Kali is associated with the colour Black as well as with a process of destruction / dispersion / dissolution is a source of wonder and amazement to many of our friends. Scholars and adepts have given many interpretations of these dark and apparently negative associations .... and i do not wish to repeat them here. Through this POST I would like to draw the attention of fellow bhaktas to a new and emerging concept known as DARK ENERGY that has been gaining ground in the area of COSMOLOGY [ of the "rational", "scientific" variety ] and which has suddenly shot into extreme visibility because of certain experimental observations that have happened as late as last september. [ If you want hard references, please go to Google and type in Dark Energy .. you will be flooded with page hits ] What is Dark Energy ... let me quote the first few paragraphs of a detailed article that is available at http://home.uchicago.edu/~mdwood/astro280/intro.html Among all areas of current research in modern cosmology and astrophysics, perhaps no area is more exciting and mysterious than the study of the nebulous component of our universe known as "dark energy". In short, dark energy is an invisible component of our universe that is completely unlike matter or radiation. Although theorists have proposed many possibilities for extra components (beginning with Einstein's cosmological constant), until recently there was no compelling observational evidence for adding another component to the universe. Prior to the "discovery" of dark energy, most theories of cosmology were based upon a universe composed only of matter and radiation. However, with the release of astrophysical observations in 1998 that suggested that the expansion of the universe was accelerating, it became clear that modern cosmological theories would need to be drastically changed. While theorists conjecture as to possible candidates for dark energy, its exact nature continues to elude us. It bears no resemblance to ordinary matter or light, the two components of our universe that we can most easily observe. It is completely invisible and its effects can only be detected on the largest scales of the universe. Although it is presently the dominant force in the expansion of our universe, its energy is relatively miniscule on scales to which we are normally accustomed (on the order of 10-8 ergs/cm3). By comparison, the thermal energy density of a cup of coffee is more than a trillion times greater. Its effects can be likened to "negative" or "repulsive" gravity. Whereas ordinary matter tends to cause the universe to contract, dark energy tends to push the universe apart. ................................. the important thing to note is that this energy is dark, it cannot be detected very easily and unlike normal energy or matter .. IT HAS A NATURAL TENDENCY TO PUSH AWAY FROM ITSELF, TO DISSOCIATE, TO BREAK UP we have ofcourse associated Kali with the creative principle but the more common image of her is her wild and destructive side. Is there a link somewhere .... Think about it and may the grace be with you. / b.. c..

Guest guest
This was so up my alley! Thank you for this, how fascinating! More, please! Guest guest
Om Shivaks51 It is fascinating to me how the far, theoretical edges of modern science continue to confirm and never contradict what sages and seers, particularly those from the many branches of Hinduism, have handed down for centuries. It matters not what one's starting point is, whether secular or spiritual, an open spirit of enquiry always brings you eventually to a common Truth. How very hopeful for the future of humanity are these 'new' 'scientific' discoveries. Paths are many, Truth is One.
