Om Parashaktyai Namaha!

Swagtham:

The groom, his parents and guests are treated to a

ritual welcome at the entrance by the bride's mother.

She does "Aarti" then pours rice, kumkum (sacred

powder) and flowers on the groom. Then she feeds him

mithai (Indian sweet).

Kanyadan:

The bride's parents perform the rituals of "giving

away" their daughter to the groom in the Hindu custom.

The bride leaves her family and embraces her new

family. This is done through a symbolic gesture of

holy water flowing from the parents hand to the

groom's hand and to the bride's.

Mangal Phera:

In the presence of the holy fire, the bride and

bridegroom walk around the fire four times asking for

the blessings of the gods gathered.

Saptapadi:

The bride puts her right toes on seven small piles of

rice being accompanied by the groom. She prays to

seven Gods and seeks seven promises from the groom

before she agrees to become his wife and in turn gives

her promises.

Varmala:

The bride and groom exchange garlands of flowers to

welcome each other.

Mangal Sutra and Mang Bharan:

The groom ties a neckalce around the bride's neck as a

symbol of their marriage. The groom also puts Sindhur

(sacred powder) on the bride's forhead and into her

hair for long life for both of them.

The ceremony is concluded with the recitation of

Shanti Mantra, a prayer of peace.
